Hi everyone, just registered today with allnurses.com.
I am seeking advise from all...as much as I will need...please feel free to leave any comments, anything will help. thanks!
a little bit about my background...
I earned my first BS from SUNY- Stony Brook in Health Science, right after that, I went through a tortuous program called EMT-Paramedic, but luckily, got passed NYS EMT-P certification exam and is now a certified EMT-Paramedic. Although I never worked as an EMT in my life!!! So I thought that was kinda wasting time for me. So I ended up now having EMT-B,EMT-P & another whole bunch of pre-hospital certifications...but has no job! I guess I was either giving myself up already to pursuit another career or got tired of studying REMAC (regional testing for P's who wants to work in 5 boroughs of NYC)! So this is my present life.
Just 2 years before that, when I was in SBU starting from 2001 - 2008 (yea! it took me 7 yrs to finish my basic college education:oembarrasing~), I was not always a hard working student, and I did sort of flunk myself in between those 7 yrs, and for 3 semesters consistently in my 4th yr there, I was not going to my classes at all. My grades are F,F,F,F,N/F,N/F.....all the way for about 1.5 yrs. Until one day, the final warning hit me like a comet hitting earth, I was on academic probation, warning, warning and reinstatement and 2nd reinstatement. However, Luckily, I met one of the greatest student advisor there, and she led me to dawn of my dark age.
She ask me to try hard and stay in college, to graduate with at least a bachelor degree. I did so, and not only so, I make it to Dean's list couple times, and last semester was even a 4.0 GPA straight. So this was my past present life about 7 year ago up until 2008.
After bumping into so many trouble in find jobs and unsuccessful, I decided to choose Nursing and that's how I ended up in CSI, right now in first semester here and a PRE-NURSING student with 3 out of 4 pre-requisite classes completed, all my credits are transferred from SBU; and still, I am taking my A&P I this semester and my average right now is like 85 in the class... I don't think I'll be able to get an A , anyways...
so here is my concern:
After they transferred my credit, i realized that one particular pre-requisite for nursing is Psychology, and for that class, I earned a B , and it's a repeat from previously, I got a F.
Because I wasted 3 semesters of time, and just registered and never went to any of the classes, on my transcript, all the grades were showing F, including my first Psychology class. Now, as I saw on the basic requirement part in order to get in nursing program in CSI, I should never repeat any of the pre-requisites even though right now my overall GPA in pre-requisites is like a 3.6.
I am seriously in consideration of giving up nursing as a choice because of that!!
Don't know what to do at this point even though I haven't even started the application...kinda loosing my faith before even applying...HELP!

I had trouble following your post but you're facing an uphill battle with a slate of Fs on your record. The B in psychology shouldn't be any sort of problem but you'd better be prepared to address why you failed so many classes.
These days, there is no shortage of excellent students without such black marks so the competition is fierce. On the other hand, there are nursing schools on every corner so if you're willing to pay for a private school, you're likely to get in.
Why you'd want to is a whole other topic.
I had issues back then when in my senior year in college. I wasn't attending classes at all even though I was registered all 3 semester and consistently. I live all the way in Brooklyn, NY and commute to study in SBU, Long Island (without a car). I had to work two jobs to sustain myself and my mother and brother... I don't think I have enough money to get into a private school, but thanks for your advise.
Honestly, I don't know what kind advise I am seeking as of right now, maybe I just want to know if there's any student got in CSI nursing with a repeated pre-requisite class, such as Psychology?
A repeated class is not a big deal.
the school I am in is called College of Staten Island.
The pre-nursing requirement here is very tough.
On the website, it clearly says students who repeated pre-requisites are not going to be considered for entrance to the nursing program.
It's making me so nervous...
Before I even got transferred, I went to the advisor, and all she said was, " we typically don't take students who repeated pre-requisites, but if you want to write something about why you did so poorly and wish to explain everything, I'll wish you GOOD LUCK!"
that statement there kinda just put me off on the spot, my mind went blank and don't know what to say, so I left her office on my way to registrate for classes. Stubbornly, I still registered for A&P dispite of what she said to me.
I need some one who can give a second opinion. I totally realized it's not going to be easy for me to get in nursing program, I an hesitating but still trying.
I'd be reluctant to believe anything posted by anonymous folks on the internet over what the college's website explicitly states and which was reinforced by the admissions counselor.
You should probably be making alternative plans, either for a different school or for a different career.

I'm not sure I understood most of your post. If the problem at hand is that your school says they do not count repeat grades for prerequisites then I guess that's that. You need to 1)confirm with an advisor that this is the case 2) if that's the case then confirm that having an F in your prerequisites precludes you from the program (if the program is competative I would say that is the case but you won't know until you ask 3) if you don't have a shot with this program move on to another that will allow for repeats or move onto a different career if you don't want to or can't find another program.

If this is what you want, don't give up! Unfortunately, you may have to take a different or longer path than other students. Does the school you're looking at have an LPN program? I know it's the long way around but from what I gather their admission process is much more forgiving than RN. After LPN- you can bridge to RN which should be much easier to get into.
The other option, like other have mentioned is a private school which you said you can not afford. Good luck.. I don't think you should just give up.. finishing a BS has to count for something as it shows you can finish what you start..

I think I would try a different school, personally. If you want to do some prerequisite course work at the college you are currently attending, that's great, but I don't think you should waste your time trying to get in the RN program there given what they have said. At my school, where I just got in as an RN student, repeating a few classes (key words: a few) isn't a big deal. Our school really wants students to have As and Bs in the sciences they take, as this is a major part of nursing. However, if you don't have the grade you want, my school doesn't hold it against you if you retake one or two classes. If I were in your position, I would finish my prerequisites there, apply to their RN program, just in case, and apply to some other RN programs just to have a backup plan. I don't think that what you did years ago affects the kind of RN you would be now. Just live in the present, learn from your past mistakes, and then forget them. Good luck!!
the thing bothers me is that,
the advisor did not say "you shouldn't apply and you wont have a chance to get in. but on the other hand, she neither has said "you should apply and maybe we will take you."
If it was an answer straight forward, I'd be much relieved.
I'm going to advising tomorrow again and going to find out exactly what will happen. wish me luck, I'm going to need it.
