Rental Car

Published

Hi I am a newbie at Travel Nursing and I want to go to Alaska this summer. My problem right now is a car, I have one where I live but it would take way to long to drive to Alaska. I wanted to know how other people worked around the car situation. I have looked at both rental car companies and having my car shipped but it is way to expensive for me. The Travel nurse company that I am talking with now says they don't have rentals cars. Can anyone give me suggestions??? Thanks!

1. Don't go.

2. Buy a car there.

3. Use public transport.

4. Get a bicycle.

5. Get housing within walking distance.

6. Get a boyfriend with a car fast.

Just for fun, I looked up rental car cost for June in Anchorage. $1,000 was the lowest for the month, from Hertz. I'd buy and sell a car before I paid that, but it doesn't sound that expensive for car addicts.

I know someone who went to Akaska and she took the bus everywhere. She said taking the bus got real old, real fast. She was counting down the weeks until her assignment ended. I don't really really think she liked Alaska in general though. She said she felt out of place bc she was not into hunting, fishing. She'd go hiking and that's about it.

You can ask for a rental car stipend to be included in your contract.

Other than possibly a tax benefit if the agency accountant can pay for a rental car tax-free, traveler compensation is a zero sum game. One pot of money to split up. Pay more for a rental car, less compensation somewhere else. If the OP believes she can't afford a rental car, a shell game splitting the pie differently will still be unaffordable.
