For those of you who may be interested, I wanted to give you some information. There is a new program starting at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Jacksonville, FL. It is a hybrid second degree BSN program. It is schedule to start in July 2011 if they are able to get enough qualified students. The program is set up to have the theory courses online and of course you have to do clinicals with each course. The school is in Jacksonville and you have to travel there I believe 4 times throughout the 13 months it takes to complete the program. Once for orientation, and then twice in semester 1 for 5 days each, and a 5 day period at the end before you graduate and take the NCLEX. They do a lab at the end of session A and session B that you have to attend to learn skills in the first semester. The clinical sites are set up mostly in Orlando, Ocala, and Tampa. I believe there are some in other areas, but that is where the majority are. There are some prereqs that have to be met, but there is still some time to pick up a couple if need be. They are still accepting applications until mid May for the July 2011 start, so if you are worried about TEAS scores and GPA and such, this may be an option as they only require a 3.0 GPA and no TEAS score. Just thought I would let everyone know as we are all trying our hardest to get our nursing degrees finished!

Early decision is April 1, but the final deadline is June 3 so you have plenty of time to retake it if you need to. Perhaps you should call Remington directly and ask them what they recommend based on your TEAS scores and GPA.

What version of the TEAS are they looking for?

TEAS Version V.

Thank you!

You're welcome! By the way, I am not happy with my overall TEAS, however, there so many application materials--letters of recommendation, transcripts/GPA, CV, etc.--that I have the feeling Remington takes into account the whole package to make a qualitative decision. I wll retake my TEAS if I do not get in; I'm thinking of having room for improvement as a good thing because it can improve my chances of being accepted next round! :)

I noticed that they seem to take a lot into consideration when reviewing an applicant. I think how thorough schools are with their admissions tells a lot about how much they care about the program and applicants. The good news with that is even if you don't get in this time around and retake the TEAS its only 6 months until the next class starts.

Remington really does take into account the whole package more so than a lot of other schools do. I was accepted to the Jan 2011 class and unfortunately wasn't able to attend due to some personal reasons, and I had my application moved to the July 2011 start. My GPA isn't the best for my undergrad degree. It was a 3.1 and my prereq GPA was only a 3.0. My TEAS score was a 89%, but as long as you have good recommendation letters and are strong in a few areas, I think they really do look at the person as a whole. Some people are not good test takers and some people may have been young and less focused when they completed their originally undergrad. I think they take these things into account. I don't think you should feel like you need a 4.0 GPA and need to score in the 90's on the TEAS to be accepted. Make sure you get good rec letters and are prepared for the phone interview and I think you will be fine! :)

I spoke with them over the phone and they said about 100 will apply, 50 will be accepted. Seems like the class size is growing... Does anyone have any recommendations/advice for the phone interview?

Thanks!

Hello! I'm in my 2nd quarter at Remington and just thought I would tell you what my phone interview was like. It was a very nice lady who interviewed me, and it felt like any other job interview that I've ever had. She gave me her background first then asked me about mine and why I decided to get into nursing. She asked me to describe a nurse in one word....I must have given her about 100 different words haha =] She asked about situations at work where I felt like a leader and when I felt like I took initiative. She also asked what techniques I use to study and also how I "de-stress". This is a stressful program, especially first quarter, so being able to deal with stress is key. Another thing she asked was about family support, which is another thing you need. I also asked her a bunch of questions. Remember, you're the one paying all the money and spending the next year of your life here so you better know what you're getting into. It's a two way interview. At the end, I explained to her that my GPA wasn't great because I was young and stupid, but I'm now more dedicated. I found out a few weeks later that I had been accepted.

About class size, I think they might be accepting more students than usual because 1) not everyone will accept and 2) we lost 6 people first quarter because of the intensity of the program. It's extremely unfortunate that we lost those people, and this may be their way of keeping the class size from getting too small. I could be wrong though.

Good luck to everyone applying. Feel free to ask any questions.
