has anyone enrolled in the inaugural Accelerated BSN class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far?

thank you,

topcat

I got a phone call today and I have an interview set up for next week. :yeah: I still didn't get a clear answer on when they will make decisions. I guess I have to get all my transcripts there first so they can calculate my GPA. I didn't send some of my graduate ones because I didn't think it mattered since they weren't prereqs or anything, but I guess they need them. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get in! Does anyone know what they ask in the interview? I'm super nervous about it!! :o

Hello everyone-

Does anyone know how many students usually apply for each term and how many get accepted?

Thanks! :)

I also applied for Remington college for January 2011. The admission office said they accept 50 students per semester.

hello!

after reading the comments on this website (positive and negative) i've decided to post about my own experience at remington. i'm currently in my 3rd quarter, having started in january 2010. my original background was a business degree, and i had no prior healthcare experience. just to give you a little info about our class - about half are local and half are from out of town. we started with 41 students and now have 33 for various reasons, but that's about right on target for the typical 20% rate of students who start nursing programs and do not complete them.

of course there are ups and downs as with any school, but overall i have absolutely loved my experience at remington so far. i have made some great life long friends and gotten to experience more than i had ever hoped for during clinicals. i also feel like i have learned so much in the 9 months that i have been here. for me, the 1st quarter was the most challenging and it has gotten progressively easier since then. during the 1st quarter, there were definitely nights when i only slept a few hours before tests and during finals week, but i haven't needed to do that in the 2nd or 3rd quarter. i don't know my exact gpa, but it is over 3.5 and there are lots of other students with higher gpas than me.

if any of you are thinking of coming to remington, i would definitely recommend it. if you have any questions, please feel free to post them...

are there students working while attending school.

I was told that they will accept 50 to 60 students depending on the amount of applications they receive and from what I was told they get about 3 applications for every seat they offer. I think almost all of the Accelerated BSN programs have become pretty competitive. As far as working, some programs won't allow you, but I don't know about Remington. I do know that your clinicals can be scheduled at anytime, including nights and weekends depending what is avaliable at the clinical site, so working might be difficult with that and the amount of work that is expected. I am sure people have done it though it just might be challenging! Does anyone know what they ask in the interview?? I have one on Tuesday and I'm pretty nervous! Also, do you know when they will make admission decisions?? I want to make sure I have a back up plan if I don't get in! Good luck to you both!

happy nurse to be, oceanavenue, or whoever can answer this:

i am sort of new to this forum. i am applying for the january 2011 term. anyway, glad to hear that you had a wonderful experience at remington. what would be the best way to prepare for remington? so while i'm taking my courses, i won't be totally confused or stressed out.

by remington being fairly new and recently got their accredidation, do you know of anyone from the graduating class of 2010, who went on and got jobs easily with no problem.

thanks.

when i went on the interview, i was asked how i can contribution to the field of nursing? i was also asked about my qualifications, my experiences, about my family, what techniques i use to study, and other general questions.

Thanks Brooklyn,

It doesn't sound too bad! Did they tell you when they will tell you if you are going to be admitted or not? Someone told me Dec. but I am hoping to not have to wait that long, so I know if I need to try to set something else up if I don't get in! Thanks! Good luck!

alanas09,

If all your paperwork is finalized by Oct. 15. You would be considered for early admission so you will know sooner than Dec. If not, the next deadline is Nov. 15, so yes, you would have to wait.

From my understanding, if you meet the requirements (including passing the background check) you have a good chance of getting in because it is a new school. However, once it gets popular, the admission process will get more difficult.

Have faith and Good Luck to you too.

Ok I had my stuff in around the 20th or so of September, so I guess I will make the early decision! I got my results from my background check and it was clear so hopefully I will be ok! I am just a worrier I suppose! I got a C in stats, and B in anatomy II so I was worried about it! I do have a 3.7 for my master's degree though, so I was hoping that would help! The older I get the more serious school becomes! I was 17 when I went to college the first time, so I didn't always get the grades I was capable of! lol So anyway, I hope we both get in! Maybe I will see you in a few short months!! :D Good luck!

alanas09,

I am also applying for January 2011. Filling out my app. as we speak. Did you take the TEAS test. If so, how was it. Was it hard? I'm just wondering if that plays a big part of getting accepted. I haven't taken it yet, but I will be taking it soon.

I don't know how important the TEAS is to admissions. I was told they look at each person as the whole package so I don't know. I took it back in September. I got an 88% which is in the 95th percentile, so it was good. The science part was the hardest part in my opinion. I used a GED study book to go over things. It is pretty basic reading and math, so you should be ok. ATI also has study guides. I didn't want to spend money so I just got the GED book from the library. Good luck to you! I have an interview Tuesday so I am keeping my fingers crossed!!
