Could someone maybe start a facebook group for our entry class? That might be easier

Hey ladies! I just found out that I was provisionally accepted to the Lake Mary Remington BSN program for Jan 2015. It is pending my completion of anatomy and physiology 2, which I am doing great in! Have either of you heard anything on your applications yet??! I wish you both the best of luck!

hi! Im pending my phone interview and waiting on a decision. When did you submit your application?

Hello Ready4Nurse,

I know this is a bit late as I see you made this topic over the summer, but I wanted to start by saying excellent choice in deciding to go for your BSN rather than the ASN. This will make you much more employable, and open the door to higher level education or management if you so choose.

Let me first tell you some good things about Remington college of nursing. It's one of the fastest accelerated BSN's I've found, it is in a safe location, its teachers (when i was there at least) are knowledgeable (especially Prof. Pennington), and it has an excellent dedicated simulation lab. The clinical experience was excellent as well (except OB for me - but that was mostly because I personally do not care for OB in the slightest). The library has more flexible times then a lot of smaller private colleges I have researched, and Pam the librarian is a wonderful resource. Staff was available for questions and exam review beyond office hours, and I was actually able to speak to them over the phone as well (first school I have been to that I have been able to do that)

Now, there are some major disadvantages that I really feel every potential student needs to know about before committing themselves and there money. First, this school is NOT regionally accredited, and there is no guarantee that it ever will be. This will make it VERY difficult to be accepted into a graduate program (especially outside of Florida). Second, the tuition has jumped over 33% since 2009 (it was $30,000 in 2009, it is now $42,000). The starting salary in Florida for BSN is still only around $21 - 22/hour - mostly unchanged since 2009, and the cost of living has significant risen with the housing market recovery and inflation. This will make it much more difficult to pay back loans/recover from a steep increase in tuition charged. Next, should you decide to attend orientation week, be VERY thorough in reading the enrollment contract presented to you in the first week. The faculty previously was not very forthcoming or clear regarding the HESI exam (this is a pre-NCLEX exam that many schools use to determine if you are ready to sit for boards). There were several students that had been denied or delayed graduation due to an arbitrary score being required, yet this was NOT listed as required in the signed original contract by students. I have been told that the contract now states the "required" score, however this was a huge issue at the time (of which some students affected actually considered legal action - I am not sure what, if anything, became of that). Lastly, they could use an upgrade in career services. I know many private schools do not have a department for job placement/career services, but in larger universities this is a big help if you do not know where to start.

Bottom line and thoughts - This is one of the fastest ways to get your BSN, and the Central Florida area is still a growing job market for nursing. The BSN will make you marketable and will open up more doors for you should you wish to pursue management or further education. For a staff RN position, no one really cares where you got your degree from as long as you have the degree. With Remington, or any other school for that matter, just make sure you are very careful and thorough regarding accreditation, cost and enrollment agreement contracts (especially with private schools).

Good luck and I hope this helps anyone who reads this!

@lovenursing1212 I sent my app Nov 1 and was accepted last Friday. Much quicker than I expected! I also am wondering if anyone else may be interested in carpooling. I will be driving some days from Mount Dora and other times from St.Cloud Kissimmee area. Too long of a drive to always do on my own, hoping to find some classmates to share the drive with occasionally! Let me know if anyone is interested!

Hi all, anyone else find a good deal on apartments?

Ready4nurse -

I'm not sure how to make it easier for you to find me, but I went to UNC- Chapel Hill and it should say I'm living in Chapel Hill and from Ocala, FL. You should see two girls in a red dress in my profile picture. Add me as a friend so that we can start a facebook group for our entry class!
