Remington College of Nursing January 2015 ABSN

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am starting the post for anyone applying to Remington College of Nursing for the 2nd Degree Accelerated Bachelors of Nursing program in Lake Mary Florida. If you currently or previously attended RCON will join is as well.

What is rolling acceptance ?

Hi Class of 2015,

I recently was accepted and have my phone interview on Monday. I've read through all the posts, all helpful information so thanks to everyone for posting their experiences! Melissa told me not worry about the phone interview and that I will get my acceptance letter next week. Once I get more information about fin aid etc on Monday then I'll feel better about accepting and attending RCON, almost afraid to jinx it beforehand. The other issue I was wanted to make sure about was the regional accreditation, because I definitely want to get my Masters or DNP after so I'm going to call some schools this week just to confirm so I have more clarify about this topic. Ahhhh.....there is so much to do before end of January, but CONGRATS to all who got in and I look forward to chatting with and meeting those of you who are attending soon :)

Also, if any former students have any feedback about the school, things you wish you had known before you started or just simply about preparing for school, I would LOVE to hear from you. Since taking out so much loans seems really daunting (esp since there are mixed reviews about job prospects/hiring/out of state positions etc.) Thanks in advance!

Hi SKS610,

I was accepted last week as well, and I have my interview on Monday...I think it's right after yours. I have o many of the same concerns, so thank you for posting. My boss is out of town for the holiday's and so I can't even put in a proper two weeks. I still need to gather my finances quickly for a loan, and figure out what to do with my furniture. I guess accelerated means accelerated, hahaha.

The biggest thing on my mind is that I want to be able to transfer my RN license, I would like to come back to Chicago. I know it's possible, but does anyone have more information about this, or would I be able to take the NCLEX-RN in Illinois and just get licensed there right after school? Florida and Illinois don't have reciprocity, and so if I am understanding correctly it's a matter of an application and a fee after I obtain licensure. However, am i required to get licensed in the state I do my education.. if that makes sense?

If anyone has feedback there, that would be very helpful.

Also, are we required to have a car for clinicals at RCoN? That will make a difference on how quickly I can be there, if I can abandon my car or if I need to drive down. BAH.

Congrats to all!!!

I'm from Michigan and I know it's just a matter of paying a fee to transfer your license to practice, as long as the school is acknowledged by the state. I think you should be able to look up in your government website about transferring a RN license. I talked to Melissa when I went down to visit and she said they have a number of students who choose to go back to their home state and take their RN-NCLEX. You can also sit for the exam in Florida as well. In regards to the car, I would think you would need a reliable form of transportation for clinicals, but I'm sure carpooling with your clinical group would be an option too.

Hi all!

I'm actually a current Remington student and wanted to ease some of your anxiety a bit! I haven't read all of the previous posts so perhaps I'm being a bit redundant, but Remington is definitely a challenging school so be prepared to work hard! It will also be extremely worth it. For someone who asked about needing transportation - you will need either your own car to travel to and from school or clinicals or there is always the option of riding with others who are going the same direction you are or are in your clinical group. You have every class with the other students in your cohort so, like it or not, you all sort of become like family. It will make you want to pull your hair out sometimes, but it's only a 12 month program (which is really hard to beat) and I promise, YOU CAN DO IT! You'll be assigned a buddy once you start later in January and I would advise you to make friends with them! They know a lot about the program and what works as far as any tips or tricks you might want to know. For anyone who has yet to hear back from Remington or was denied acceptance for this term: don't give up! I actually did not have a very high science pre-requisite GPA but my overall GPA was fine, TEAS was good, and I had a ton of good experience under my belt. Like someone said earlier, Remington definitely looks at the full picture and you're certainly not just a number on a transcript when they look at who they want to accept. Also, I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have :) I know I had so many questions before I started. Congrats to of the newbies who will be starting in Cohort 13; I know y'all have orientation coming up so have fun and take it all in!

Thank you so much for the support and encouragement! Congrats to you!!

i look forward to meeting you and getting our BSNs in one year!! í ½í¸œí ½í²‰í ½í²Ší ½í³±

Hi! I am looking to apply for this upcoming January and wanted to know how everyone liked the program and what were your stats going in?

Hi, do you remember the time frame for the score to be valid? Please! cause most school usually say 5 years and I don't see anything on the website about that for Remington. Thanks

Wow that's quick. I am still hung up on my TEAS. I took it 4 years ago and got 91 however the score is too old. I need to make that score again. I have until December if I don't get in this round.

Hello!

I was accepted to the class starting in July 2016 and wanted to touch base with your class to get an idea of what the first quarter was like, schedule wise. Mrs. Nash said there are some days that will be half days and some 8-5. I'm not if they keep that schedule consistent quarter to quarter but I was hoping to get an idea so I can look for a home health aide for my fiance' who is disabled.

Thanks!!
