Remember Anatomy and Physiology?

Published

What did your instructor do that made anatomy and physiology information memorable for you? I am an instructor and I want to find ways to make my lessons memorable. Please share anything that was creative, fun, helpful to you that I could incorporate into my lessons. Also, any projects that you were proud of? Thanks so much.

My A&P professor, although a very nice man and very knowledgable about the subject, is not very good at relaying the info.

-please, please, please..be animated. Do not stand there totally still. My prof stands in the same place every lecture, and if you didn't notice the occasional up and down movement of his chest you'd think he was a manniquin.

-use your voice. Nothing bores student more than a monotone teacher.

-tell stories pertaining to the subject matter. Many times when a person hears a story they can retain the info better and then pull it back up when needed.

-while power points are nice, please don't go word for word from the book. I can read the same thing..make your lecture your own.

-give helpful tips/mnemonics that might help students remember things. Think back to when you were in AP, what helped YOU remember.

-if you find a website that might help students grasp the concept more with video, pictures etc (don't forget about your visual learners) let them know.

-try to make it fun..1/2 the class vs the other in a "trivia" game, things like that.

My instructor is an older man with lots of stories. He applies almost everything we learn to someone he knows, knew or famous that experienced something related to what we were studying. He has a hilarious way of telling these stories so it keeps things interesting and also makes it a little easier to remember things when you hear real-life examples.

I had a wonderful A&P teacher for I & II. He is a doctor (MD) & used stories that he had experienced. Use PowerPoints & draw on the board. Also use the models that are provided in class & also provide time in class for students to use them. Also, let students record you lectures if you are comfortable with that.

I also had to do two projects, one for each class. I don't feel comfortable putting them up on this site but you can e-mail me at [email protected] & I will be happy to e-mail them to you.
