  1. At my school, you have 3 chances to pass the calculation test with a 100% every semester. If you do not pass you are not allowed to attend clinical and take a remediation course. There is no way that you can change that policy. You said that you made an 80% on your test. Think about it, you have a 20% chance of screwing up a dosage and really harming or even killing someone. Would you want a nurse that only made an 80% giving you drugs? Personally, I do not. There is a good reason why the school has that policy. Talk to your dean to see how you can achieve that 90% you need to proceed to you pediatrics class.
  2. @ Mike A. Fungin RN - Thanks for your input! As I understand, it is a 12 panel drug screen. Not sure if that makes any difference.
  3. Good point. Thanks for the advice!
  4. I will be submitting a drug test prior to the fall semester for school. I am wondering if Flexiril (I have severe tension headaches) & Celexa (helps control anxiety & mild depression) will be seen on the test. I am almost sure they will be. Should I just take prescriptions with me to the test or inform the nursing school? Also, I get IV therapy every two weeks for an ankle condition (have no cartilage & a synovial fluid problem) & am wondering if I need to have my PCP write a letter to the school about it. They can only start an IV in my right arm & I am a hard start so sometimes it takes more than one stick & consequently kind of looks like I am doing other things than a prescribed treatment. Thanks so much for the input!
  5. Uuuhhh...no. They will recognize that you have an ADN in nursing and a BS in Biology. You actually have to go to school to obtain a BSN.
  6. I start nursing school in fall 2011. Having health insurance is one of the requirements for entry into the program. I have insurance through my dads place of employment but it is not as it could be. I also understand I can get insurance through the university. I was wondering what other insurance plans are out there. Also, what insurance did/do you have in school, how much was it, what coverage it has, deductibles, etc? Links would be great! thanks so much for the help!
  7. Hi, What are some good books to have on hand throughout nursing school? I have the Saunders 5th edition NCLEX-RN, a few Made Incredibly Easy books, LaCharity, Taber's Medical Dictionary, and some pocket guides. Is there anything that helped you through nursing school that I don't have? Thank you!
  8. Hello, I am currently working on my BSN. I have a strong desire to become a DNP - in which specialty I am unsure. Does anyone know if there such a "bridge" program that allows one with a BSN obtain a DNP? Or is it better to go from BSN to MSN (maybe even a post-MSN certificate) & then apply to DNP schools? Thanks so much!
  9. Depends on the school I suppose. I attend a 4-year university and admissions goes strictly on GPA. We do not have a waiting list. If you don't get in, you have to reapply the following semester.
  10. I have a Victorinox watch that is stainless steel, water proof, and has military time. Its the best watch I have ever owned. They are a little pricey...go for around $400 retail but look on eBay and there are a few going for around $100-150.
  11. My favorite is a Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscope. The are a bit pricey but well worth it. I've also heard that Littmann Classics & Lightweights are good as well.
  12. Learn your grammar and spell correctly. Could not understand a word you said.
  13. My school is strictly based on GPA.
  14. I have a 27" burgundy Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscope
  15. My drive to school is about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic.
