I wasn't aware but I kind of figured if they were willing to pay relocation for such a small hospital that they really need nurses and not many people wanted to go out there. The recruiter did mentioned that.

From what I've read there are a lot of issues in the Springfield area and a lot of people are leaving Illinois in mass amounts because the state is bankrupt (or close to it) and weather. Again that's just from what I've read. The hospital Just opened a new wing opening up a mass amount of nursing jobs. The way the recruiter explained the relocation program, part of it including them paying for candidate to be flown in, cover hotel and food while they are there and have them tour the town with a real estate agent, leads me to believe that they are recruiting a lot from out of state. It was really surprising the first time I heard it honestly

But you are right about already having an offer from Texas, I just worry about accepting the job and then burning a bridge if I do get and offer in Illinois.

Specializes in Dialysis.

But if you go to IL, you most likely will not ever need to go to TX. You'll learn your area in IL and branch from there

I'm currently in WI, hoping to move to SW FL. I understand your struggle. I live in a small town with limited options unless I want to drive 45+ miles and in the winter that isn't always ideal. I started in LTC went to home health and now I'm doing LTC floor nursing as well as MDS Coordinator. The job is okay, almost all my coworkers are great, but it's just not what I want. I want more and I'm considering getting an informatics certification. All that being said, I don't know a lot about Texas, but I know winters in Illinois aren't always pretty and coming from south FL that adjustment along with a completely different culture could be a hard adjustment. I wish you the best of luck. Interested to see what you decide to do.

That is very true, I guess it's the overly cautious side of me which causes a lot of "what ifs" to pop up. Like what if I wanted to go to texas? I guess it doesn't matter quite as much... once I have experience hopefully things will get much easier.

Yeah... my BF is originally from Illinois he warned me about the winters. Honestly anywhere north of mid florida is going to be an adjustment. The culture gap between south florida and north florida is huge. But honestly searching for 3 years, thousands of applications and never a call back? I know my chances here are very, very slim. So I'm honestly willing to suck it up and adjust to wherever I need to go.

I wish you a lot of luck getting a job down here, like most places if you have experience it'll be easier.

If you can get safe transportation to the hospital, what difference does it make what the winters are like or what the economy or anything else is like? You just need to put your head down and get two years of experience and then take it with you if you want. It's not happening for you in FL so look at it as a paid internship in a temporary place, enough to pay the rent and get your career going.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm doing. I have a car but something tells me it'll take me a while to get to work since icy roads are a whole new experience. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing someplace other than Florida... actually seeing seasons change LOL!

So small update. Texas called HR person is supposed to be back today but no contact yet. Also, I went to look over the Emails from the Illinois job and noticed that the persons Email was linked to a Healthcare Staffing agency... So not sure if my chances are better or not with a nurse recruiter trying to help me with getting into the hospital.

Rural central PA. Boring, but safe. Many place will hire folks with an ADN. Money is "OK" for the cost of living.

South FL is truly a world all it's own. Been there a few times and have some friends from there. I think it boils down to what you think is best for you, neither move will be easy, but sometimes we have to do some tough and uncomfortable crap to get ahead. I'm sure you will find the right place and best opportunity. :)

I'm not sure what you consider safe transportation to any job when you have multiple layers of freezing rain and snow. And if someone has never driven in that type of weather it can be pretty scary. I've lived in it my whole life and it still scares me to drive in ****** winter weather at times.

Yeah... not going to lie it really does terrify me thinking about driving in snow and Ice. Honestly... I'm hoping to live close to the hospital or at least close to a bus or something. I'll figure it out as I go along.

The recruiter from Illinois got back to me to confirm the interview, not only that but also sent me a good number of interview tips to help. I'm hoping things turn out well.

Update: After a whole lot of thinking, deliberation, talking to friends and family... I probably won't take the job in Texas. Mostly because I will be moving by myself to a remote small town where it is close to the border and frankly my spanish is not very good. A friend of mine who's mother has been dealing with the mass immigration of minors across the border has said thing can get fairly rough out there. All that and I just an uneasy feeling when looking up information about the town and what was around it. If I were with friends or at the very least moving with my BF I would probably take it but he can't because his job, which he's doing very well at, is local and finding another won't be easy for him. Thank you to all who gave advice. I'm still going to keep up the search though!

I have been applying to other new grad programs and hospitals which hire ADN's. I have a good feeling about Illinois and I'm still praying for that job but I've learned here that it never hurts to at least apply other places just in case.
