Published

Hello All-

I am a new grad RN relocating to NYC.....I am looking for a job to start at a hospital that has a good new grad program in the ER. Which hospitals should I apply to?

Any word of any open houses coming up soon for new grads?

I will bw staying in Brooklyn and I am willing to travel to Manhattan, Queens and Long Island to work?

Please help.....

And what are the starting salaries for new grads out there at your hospital?

Thanks all for your help-

Just a heads up that parts of long island can be over an hour and a half away. The LIJ/NorthShore hospital system may be worth looking into.

NYU, mt sinai, NY presbyterian all in manhattan. They're the biggest teaching hospitals and have the best programs for new grads, from what I've heard. City hospitals pay more but taxes are higher in the city. I am also looking into this myself, I am also relocating.

I heard that NYPres has a ER new grad residency program, but I think the application deadline was march 31st and its VERY competitive, like only 7 spots and at least 50 applicants. You should also try ER's that are Level 1 Trauma centers as they are probably bigger and need more staff. Google new york trauma centers, you'll find a list of regional trauma centers in the new york city region. NYU doesn't have a good ER (they don't take trauma, most of their cases are referrals from physician's offices) but they hire new grads there. Bellevue, Lenox hill is expanding theirs I think and also new york downtown hospital.

hope this helps.

I am also looking for a job right now. These are the starting salaries that I have heard: Memorial Sloan Kettering: 70, NYPres: 69,7, Mount Sinai: 68 (although I heard from a Columbia NS that they went up to 71?), Montefiore: 68, Maimonides: 66,8, Lenox Hill 65ish (64,9?), NYU: 65,7, public hospitals are at like 62. Even though the salary is lower I am looking at NYU just because I did my senior leadership there and I'm already comfortable with their environment. You can google a list of NYC hospitals and wired.com will give you a list of hospitals along with their website by borough, and then you can look on there for salary info if they have any/positions!

Good luck!

Pennprincess-

Thank you so much for your assistance. I have decided to relocate to California, I was offered a reall good ER position there. After a year at this hospital, I will then pursue an ER position in NY. Thank you for the heads up on salaries.

I got a few calls regarding new grad positions but they only had med-surg opportunities for new grads and that is not what I wanted. Of course, they were at the public hospitals. I guess because I started my search so late in the game. I want to stick to the ER, so this is probably my best option.

Let me know where you end up, good luck at NYU!

Does anyone have any good leads/advice for a psych nurse soon to have 1 yr of experience looking to relocate to a Manhattan hospital?
