Hi everyone. I have a question about changing residencies while still under a diversion agreement with my current state. I know people do relocate and just serve out the remainder of their agreement with the new state all the time. My psychiatrist is supportive of this and I've asked my contact at the Board about it and she was pretty much like "no problem, you'll just get monitored by your new state." However, I am thinking of moving to CO or CA and fear that I may get myself involved in a really restrictive, expensive agreement. I was able to be monitored by the same place I did my treatment and they've been great. My current agreement is actually pretty lenient and not costing me a ton of money like many programs do. Does anyone have any information about PAS in Colorado? What about California and Maximus? I wonder if I should just sit tight and serve out the remainder of my contract and get it all behind me but I'm getting really burnt out and tired of the midWest. Once it's complete, it's sealed and confidential and I can stop living in fear so much. It's been really hard finding my passion for nursing again after the last few years. Sorry for the long message; please share your insights!

I've known one person who went from Fl. to Montana and back to Fl. The monitoring in Montana was kind of cool. There were so few participants that the case managers really got to know their participants on a personal level. Just from the little I know, the higher the populace crammed into one area, the bigger the pain in the ***, the higher the charges and the tighter the restrictions. If it were me, I would sit tight.
Just my two cents...
Good luck!

Relocating, for me, was a complete disaster, and extended my time significantly. Before you pack up that moving van, be crystal clear on your contract. After 2 years in a monitoring program, I moved to Florida. Rather than finishing out my original 5 year contract, IPN gave me a new 5 year contract, putting me at a total of 7 years in monitoring. It sucked, to say the least. My parents needed me there, so I really didn't have a choice in the matter. That was a longgggg 7 years, let me tell you.

I vote with riding it out. It will be so much more mentally relieving to start over in a new place with no extra “baggage.” Good luck!

I say sit tight. I was told in the beginning that if I move, each state has their own rules and it can significantly be longer. The states too you named, I'd be a little weary. I'm in AZ, our program is 3 years here.

Sit tight. Some of those contracts can get really expensive. I had a classmate who wound up on one.

I'd stay put if I were you. Your monitoring program is a known entity, and God only knows what you might have to go through if you sign up for another state's program. You can always move after your contract is up.
