Registration in the morning!!!

Published

Tommorrow is the day I go for advisement and registration at a new school! I have all of my pre req's from my previous degree but I need to retake my A&P's because it's been over 7 years since I took them. I of course have a plan in my head, and on about 10 notepads around the house, that I will take A&PI this semester, and then apply to 3 nursing programs, with the understanding that my 2nd A&P will be next semester, but all will be finished before starting the nursing program. My fear is, since I am a new student at this particular college, I have to register after the returning students, and what if there is no slot for A&PI????!!!!! They have it set up where I can take the class online and go to lab at night or on Saturday, so I'm praying it works. BUT, if there are no more slots, would it be best to take some random class so that next semester I won't be classified as a "new" student and I can register early? It may seem like a dumb question but it's a lot of money, although it would help to take some really easy class to raise my GPA! CONFUSED?!

I know what you mean about "the plan". I have mine written everywhere also! I'm not sure about where you are, but where I live the A&P classes are the FIRST to fill up and a lot of the classes close since the wait lists are full also. My suggestion is sign up for the class you'd like to take, and perhaps contact the instructor and let him/her know your situation. Usually they'll give you a good idea whether you'll be admitted into the class. If worst comes to worst and you can't take A&P I, then take another class so the next time you register you'll *hopefully* have an improved registration date/time. Perhaps there's another course you need to take for the degree? Or if you haven't taken medical terminology I'd suggest that. It helped me with A&P. Good luck and I hope you get the course you want!

You're lucky that you can apply before your prereqs are done. Alot of schools toss apps that don't have the prereqs already finished. As far as if you don't get into a&p, definatly take something else. I got into the classes I needed as a first quarter student because I went in summer (less people in summer). I'm taking bio in fall and was able to register for it in June. As of a couple weeks ago all bios are full, good thing I didn't wait. :chuckle

If the slots are full then you should definitely contact the instructor. You may be able to ask him/her to allow an overload for the class. You can go to the first day of class and ask that your name get added to a list. People always drop. Or, you can just keep looking at the class on registration. That's what I did with my last class. I got in the Friday before the class started. I got kind of obsessed about looking over and over at that page until finally there was an opening!

I would call the college you are going to and ask them what the procedure is for getting off the waitlist for a class or even if they have waitlists for classes. Where I am taking my A&P there are no waitlists, however if you did not pay your tuition by a specific day in the summer then you were dropped from the class. That is how I managed to get into an otherwise full class. The first time I took A&P (mine was a while ago as well), the instructor would drop anyone who did not show up the first day of class and/or would let an additional 3-4 people in because he knew that after the first exam there would be an attrition in the class (and there was). So you can see that the policy varies from school to school and there is no way to know what the policy is at the school you are now attending. The best way to know is to cal the Registrar's office and ask.

Also, most colleges allow registration based on the total number of credit hours, so if your new college does registration based on this system then you will still be last in the registration line so to speak. Again, this is something you would have to find out by asking.

I hope you are able to get in the A&P.

I usually register early in this semester for next semester's courses because I take my classes online and they fill up fast!

Early this summer I went to register for fall online A&PII and they were already full! I logged on the day after payments were due and there was 1 slot for the A&PII online open. You bet I grabbed it! :D:up: So if you don't get the class you want, wait until after the payment due date and you can grab a seat in what was a closed course! :yeah:
