Hello:
I finally made it out of nursing school and I am now eligible to register for the NCLEX with NY state. What is the process? Do I first wait to receive my letter allowing me to take the exam and I then register for Pearson Vue or can I do it all at the same time? Can I even pick a date though from Pearson Vue if I did not yet get the okay from the state?
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Our instructors held an application session before we graduated. They told us to apply w/ the state BON and Pearson VUE. I live in FL and was told by a FBON employee that it can take 30 days to be considered "eligible", which is then communicated to Pearson and they are supposed to send me the ATT once they verify I am eligible. One of the girls in my class is moving back up to Mass and she applied with the Mass BON and they must have worked it very quickly b/c she recieved her ATT a week after she applied. The rest of us that applied in FL are still waiting (it's been about 18-20 days). Anyway, I think you apply to both and pay whatever fees need to be paid in advance.

Most schools handle the application process for their graduates as a group. Ask someone at your school for help. Or you can download the application for your state and fill it out, following the instructions given online. You pick the date from Pearson Vue based on what they have available at the time.

If I remember rightly you can't book a date without your ATT and pearsonvue will not issue that without the OK from BON
What I was wondering was if i could send my application to the BON first then wait to sign up for Pearson Vue or do I have to sign up for both at the same time? I am still recovering financially because my preceptorship only allowed me to work 10 hour weeks so I was hoping to sign up for each over a two week period if at all possible.

You can sign up with Pearson after registering with the state. Your ATT can also be delivered via email, rather than waiting for the letter (at least in Colorado, but I've heard of other states doing this). When you register with Pearson, you can look at available dates, but you may not register for the test until you have that ATT number.
You are allowed to move your test date after you have registered, as long as it is more than 24 hours before your scheduled test. I bumped my test up by 2 weeks because I kept checking the Pearson site to see if earlier appointments opened up.
