Registering for Classes Today

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Family,

Im actually registering for classes today in a little while, and just needed some last minute advice as to what to make sure to ask or classes to register for. Just to give you a litte information about where i stand now. Im registering for classes for my pre requisites, before i get accepted to a nursing school. Any Help on what to ask or any pointers would be appreciated. I will start full time in January 09.

Thanks,

Shawn :yeah:

Well, what classes do you need?

I'm taking Organic Chem, A and P II, retaking Microbiology online and taking intro to nutrition online (which I'm taking as pass/fail). So it can't be any worse than this semester. (Which is A and P I, Intro Chem, Microbiology and another Physiology course) :-)

I apply for nursing school on March 1st because all my pre-reqs will be done. I recommend getting as many of non-nursing classes as you can out of the way so you can focus on the important stuff. (Like my nursing program required microbiology, stats, and psychology before graduation in addition to the pre-reqs before getting into nursing school. So I have ALL those out of the way and all I have left is the actually nursing classes to focus on) I couldn't imagine the hard nursing classes AND microbiology... I'd probably gouge my eyes out.

Good luck.

:bugeyes:Hello,

I have registered for classes. I am going to be taking 4 classes. I will be taking English Comp1, Reading Lit, Algebra 1, and Spanish 1. I know it doesnt sound like classes that may get me to where I want to be right now. I was more hoping to take classes like A&P1, Biology, and Pyscholgy, classes like those. Unfortuanetly my reading score on my college placement test was to low to start into any of those classes i just listed. I will start in January 09 at the community college. The community college only offer a 2 yr ADN program, but idealy im just going to this college to complete all my pre-reqs with hopes to transfer to a 4 yr school. I picked up Spanish 1 because i know this was going to be an easy class, as I already speak spanish fluently. They do not have to know that though. LOL... Ideally i just wonder how long will this all this take to complete, if I plan on transfering? I guess it is just a little overwhelming thats all. I just feel like Im already 25 yrs old, and i should of done this along time ago. Thats all. Overall I am really excited to start back to school. It has been along while since I have been to school, since high school to be exact. Dont mean to tell a story or anything, just wanted to vent a little bit thats all. I have a feeling that allnurses.com is going to become my second family real soon. LOL...:typing

It depends on how many classes the programs you're applying to require, whether you are going full time, and whether or not you plan on attending school over summer.

If you still need all of your GE courses (which I assume you do because you mentioned eng1) it will take a little bit longer.

Some people can finish their prereqs in a year (without any GE) and for some it takes 3 or 4 years if you go part time and have a lot of GE courses left to do.

It will take me 4-5 (full) semesters plus one summer (so 2-2.5 years) to finish everything and be able to apply. (I haven't figured out exactly how long, I'm goin with the flow)

Pretty much, you'll just need to figure out all of the classes you need to take to have all your prereqs completed, and set up a plan for yourself of when you are going to take what classes. Set a goal. I'd start science prereqs as soon as possible because many students choose not to do more than one or two sciences at a time (they can be difficult!)

There's another thread floating around somewhere about how long its taking people to finish all their prereqs, if you can find it. maybe search the allnurses website for it.

Good Luck
