Question: Acronym in patient chart

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hi I am a BSN student.

Can anyone answer what any of the following acronyms stand for?

Those are read from doctor's notes (except 3) in a pediatric unit:

1) "Lungs EAEB"

2) "E20/ EBM" (I know EBM is expressed breast milk but what's E20?)

3) "LF@1500"

4) MSI note

5) AVSI

6) "EW triggering"

Thank you for your time in advance.

Acronyms mean different things in different specialties, different countries and in different areas of the same country. None of those acronyms mean anything to me with my background in ICU in the US. (East coast, west coast and midwest.)

As a public service announcement (and not because you asked), I'll say that using acronyms on AN is tricky because they mean different things to different people. I'm always happy to learn something new, so I hope someone answers you.

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you said and totally agree with you. I hope someone familiar with these terms/acronyms can answer me. Thanks again!

Well, I'm giving your thread a bump here in hopes that someone who is familiar will notice it.

I think #2 is Enfamil 20 cal (formula) and/or EBM

Could you ask the doc directly? I think #6 might be "excessive wind triggering", but I'm not certain

This is why I hate when people start using acronyms and abbreviations in their notes.

LF@1500 means "Last fed at 3pm"

1) Lungs equal air entry bilaterally

2) 20 cal/ounce expressed breast milk

3) last fed

4) Medical student intern note (written by a med student)

5) Do you mean AVSS? All vital signs stable

Not sure about #6

Hope this helps, cheers!
