Registered in CA BON but wants to work in Florida...

Published

Hi All!

I am now preparing for my NCLEX exam here in the Philippines, the CA BON had just granted me eligibility. If ever I pass NCLEX but I wish to work in Florida, can you please tell me the steps on how to be licensed in Florida?:p

SIlverdragon says no...but I would email them if the NCLEX from the California BON is acceptable. Unfortunately, NCLEX does have an expiraton (I believe it's 2 years), you must obtain your license within the specified amount of time or else, you would have to re-take it. Just like the TOEFL/TSE. ALways check with official sites, I say. You would never go wrong if its in writing. This is just a forum. Good Luck

NCLEX does not have a expiration date it is just the application. Licenses have expiration dates and need renewing every x amount of years depending on the BON/BRN and some do require a SSN before they will renew but saying that many are acknowledging the retrogression and allowing renewal without SSN. Ca did this last year and allowed members who contacted them in writing explaining their situation to extend their file for another 12 months without SSN. But they will not issue a license without SSN.

Agree though always check directly with the BON as they have the final say at the end of the day

And the CA letter that they issue is valid for three years, it is different than the length of time given with an actual license.

And the NCLEX never has an expiration, provided that someone has a license or has been practicing someplace. You are speaking only of the letter issued by CA BRN.

The NCLEX exam is also a national exam, so it does not matter where it is written, but that it was passed. And if the person has not been granted a license by CA or another state, then they must use the License by Examination application and then have the originating state forward the results to them.

Florida requires the CES and they will need to see that before they will even look at an application for licensure.

Actually, the only way Florida's Board of Nursing would even look at your application for reciprocity is if you're already a licensed RN from another state. In CA, you need a SSN before you get a license. If one is applying directly to the Florida Board of Nursing then you wont need a SSN to submit your NCLEX results.

Sorry, but in the US, we do not have reciprocity. There is actually no application for that, and reciprocity means that everything is accepted right across the board and a license just issued. This is definitely not the case for any state, one is applying for endorsement which is completely different.

The application is called Endorsement and can only be used with a license.

Florida also is a state that does not issue a license without a SSN# either.

I get your point, silverdragon. I am describing licensure by endorsement from another state. I had read the Florida board of nursing licensing qualifications and it doesn't specify anything about a simple NCLEX score from another state. My friend had the same conundrum before, he had passed the CA NCLEX,but doesnt have a SSN, so no license. When he tried to apply in Florida, his immigration lawyer wanted him take ANOTHER NCLEX exam. I'm guessing foxyrn's best bet would be to email the Florida board of Nursing. At least, thats official.

That just means that your friend has an attorney that knows nothing about nursing. That is where your friend's problems are, and that alone.

Sorry, but attorneys do not always know what is needed to be done with nursing.

The NCLEX exam is a national exam, the results are accepted in all 50 states as well as all US territories. It never has to be rewritten to work in another state provided that it was passed to begin with.

We actually are very aware of what the requirements are for Florida as well as every other state in the US.

There is absolutely no reason to e-mail the BON there to get information that is very well known.

But the question is how to WORK in Florida, not really if NCLEX is reciprocal to all states. If you want to work in Florida, you must be LICENSED either by examination or endorsement, plus the other requirements. Passing the NCLEX in California doesn't immediately entitle you to a license. And isn't licensing the crux of this thread? Again, I would reiterate, emailing Florida's BON. Just my humble opinion.

Sorry, but again, your information that you are posting is 100% incorrect and not sure where you are getting it from.

There is no place that states that a license in any state makes is automatic that one will get a license in another state, that is why we say that licenses do not have reciprocity, the word that you used in another post here; but only that they can be endorsed. And that means that all requirements of the new state are met.

Where you are really wrong or misinformed is the fact the NCLEX exam is actually a national exam and is never written specifically for only one state or territory. The results do have reciprocity, meaning that the passing result is accepted in all 50 states and US territories.

It is you that needs to get the terms that are properly used correct.

Anna (Silverdragon102) is completely 100% correct in what she has posted.

And we do highly recommend that you take the time and read the Primer at the top of this forum as there is information that you are not aware of but do need to know, and it could be very helpful to your friend that has the attorney that does not know anything about nursing in the US.

Closing this thread as the question has been asked. The OP asked for the steps to work in Florida and that has been answered.
