I was given a routine gbs test from my ob/gyn. They called me this morning and told me, "'You tested positive and will be receiving antibiotics as a preventative. We know you're having a cesarean, but it is still administered."
I'm leaning toward declining the antibiotics because im having a cesarean delivery. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria with the bad. And if he will be exposed to hospital bacteria, I really don't want him immuno-compromised so early on.
However, Is there something more to this?

We cannot give medical advice on here.
But it begs me to wonder, why has our society gotten to the point where we no longer trust medical professionals and refuse life saving medications. I especially see this with pregnant women.
You are paying this person thousands of dollars and trust them to get you and baby through delivery safely. That's why you hired them.
I just shake my head anymore. We in the medical field are so disrespected anymore and 80% of the problem is doctor google and mommy blogs. Where any mom or man living in his mom's basement gets to dispense inaccurate medical advice and for some reason the world takes it as gospel.

I'm 40 weeks pregnant and am a member of a "due in October" Facebook group (honestly, mostly for entertainment purposes at this point), and yes, the "in vogue" thing to do seems to refuse any and all medical interventions. I'm relatively crunchy myself - I am trying to do things as naturally as possible, buuuut...while looking at the entire picture. If I need "non-natural" interventions for the sake of the baby, that's fine and won't ruin my birth experience. Women are refusing heplocks but still delivering in the hospital. Huh? Women who report that they're being induced are being questioned harshly by other group members. Epidural shaming exists. It's ridiculous. But I think it all comes down to "the birth experience" and the fear that every little thing that isn't 100% natural will cause issues at some point.

Ya know, because the 100% natural way has had such a wonderful survival rate for both mothers and babies through the millennia....
Well, those moms and babies on "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" are always FINE!
