Refresher course from a recent NCLEX passer ?!?

Published

Hi my beloved allnurses family!

So, I just recently passed the NCLEX and now starting to look for a job. I'm a foreign that have a BSN and graduated March 2008. I didn't have any experience and moved here in the US. I'm currently working as a nursing assistant on a Med-Surg floor for about a year now. The hospital that I'm working at is having an opening for New Grad RN Residency. So, I applied for it and still haven't received a response. Which kinda made me down right now. I thought they will conferring hiring me because I am a really good employee. But knowing that I've been out of school for four years now, do you think it will be helpful for me to take a refresher course?!? I've asked some people that I'm working with and they said that I shouldn't waste my money on it because that's what the residency is for. A nurse in my floor even told me that she is willing to be my preceptor if I get in. Everyone in my floor has been really encouraging through my journey on becoming a nurse!

So, what do you think my allnurses family?!? Thank you so much in advance for the response! :)

Oooops, Typo error . I mean. Consider hiring me.

Specializes in Critical Care, Medical-Surgical.

Hi Pink,

It's not you. The market is really bad. It is an employer's maket now. So they are pretty much almost asking a MSN for you to work the floor. Keep looking because eventually will find something.

Thank you william! Anyone here that can give me advice?!? I would really appreciate it. ;)

f/u with your application. and THEN consider a refresher course as a last resort.

ask the hospitals that you applied to why you weren't chosen for an interview what you can do better. thats the only advice i have for you. you have to do more active research on your part to find out what the managers are looking for.

i did that one. and i got huge advice! the manager on the unit i applied for already chose her interviews but said she was looking for people who were trying to keep up their skills.

so yes, a refresher course is a good idea, but find out first hand before spending money on something like that.

GOOD LUCK! AND I REALLY HOPE YOU GET IT!
