recurring embezzelment story, urban myth?

Published

Have heard the same story at each of the institutions I have worked and the elements of the story are so similar that I am finally starting to think it is urban myth. I have heard at least five versions of this story but some elements remain the same. It goes like this, "Many years ago a highly respected CEO died in office here, after this person died it was found they had embezzeled huge sums of money from the institutions. The whole thing was hushed up and it the public at large was never aware." Just recently a new hire and I got to talking about a fomer an institution where she had worked. I mentioned a CEO who I had liked and respected from 15 years ago when I worked at same place. She put her arm around me and said, "let me tell you hon, when the CEO died they found that 18million dollars was missing, the whole thing was hushed up and the family had to pay the money out of the estate". HUMMMMMMM::uhoh21:

ceo are no more or no less honest than other people but just as there are checks and balances in the nursing profession there are auditors whose job it is to check up

they may be smart enough to get away with it for a while but like a house of cards it will come tumbling down

Well, it's plausible enough of a story that it could go either way.
