Recovering Nurse Jobs

I am currently a recovering nurse in North Carolina, and have had over one year of sobriety. Am on the trail of seeking employment, but its been very difficult. No one wants to hire a nurse with a history of addiction. Any suggestions out there? Thanks

Was your license affected by your addiction? If it was not affected how do potential employers know about it? Have you looked into non hospital/clinic nursing ie case management, insurance, telephonic interviewer etc? Good luck to you addiction to anything is a tough thing in life to overcome and you have likely have a long journey in front of you

In North Carolina, you have to give up your license while you are in treatment, then reapply for a restricted license. Which means, day shift jobs only, nothing after 11pm. You can not pass any type of controlled substance. You have to have another RN working with you at all times. And yes, you have to tell your to be employeer about your addiction. I know this is completely different than other states, but this is how the board of nursing in north carolina have it set up. The restrictions are only for one year. But getting your foot in the door is the most difficult.

So working from home is out, working in an office as the only RN is out.

As boring as it might seem, LTC might be a good option. You'd be more likely to at least get an 8hr daytime shift.
