Reconstitutions (though I haven't dealt with these often at this point) are usually listed in the actual med order at my hospital. The label on the vial also might have guidelines listed on it. I always give the med right after mixing it--most reconstituted meds do not last long after mixing, but that info would probably be on the vial's label as well.
ETA: Here's a helpful little blip about it:
Thank you for the help.. appreciate it! :)I have another question. We practice skin test prior giving antibiotics but sometimes have to do it through an IV test . Does anynone know how much amount of the drug is given for the IV test? be of great help. thank you.
You'll need to go to your facilities policy manual for that, I would think. I know I have never done a skin or IV test prior to abx. You can also ask the pharmacy.

HI! I have a question with reconstituting powdered drugs in vials. Is there a standard amount of diluent to be used let us say the package inserts are not available? Like for antibiotics in 500mg vials do we use 5cc of sterile water and 10cc in 1gram.
How long can we keep the opened vials and when to discard them?
Thank you!
