I should be starting NS in the fall and I was wondering if anyone would recommend any books that you feel should be required upon entering nursing school?
Thanks everyone!

I second the idea of fortifying yourself spiritually. I would recommend When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron for a non-theist, Buddhist perspective.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest was a really good book. Enjoy some literature (of whatever genre you like) before all you are reading is nursing material

Maybe the lastest edition of People-so you will still feel like you are a part of society?
Seriously, you will have plenty of time to read while in nursing school. Can you go get your syllabus from the bookstore?

Has anyone else read the autobiography "Intensive Care: The Story of a Nurse" by Echo Heron? After seeing her at a bookstore reading I read her book, even before I'd decided definitely to go to nursing school, then I read it again right before I started classes. I found it to be a really inspiring and exciting story, and felt like it gave me a pretty good idea about what to expect from both school and starting out as a new nurse.
Good luck!

I've read Echo Heron and I really liked her books. They are good to read before entering nursing school. You feel like you are going right along with her on her journey. :)

Read something that you will enjoy! I began Nursing school in August of 2004 and have yet to read a book that I want to for fun. Maybe after NCLEX I will have some free time!!!! Good luck with nursing school!!!!

Relax man, nursing school is not that hard. I would recommend, The House Of God. Hilarious book but kind of an old school view of nursing.

I read House of God a few years ago. It was quite immature. Basically I think it's an 'old school' dumbed down novel for yester-years' medical students.
I think what you need to know, you will have ample ability to learn in nursing school. Do whatever it is that makes you feel happy, centered and at peace with yourself. No need to get a head-start on burning yourself out. Good luck.
