Recommend a HeadHunter from personal experience?

Advertising is not allowed on the board. I am concerned that this may elicit comments from persons wanting to plug their services. Tread carefully.

I have never had the need. I have had TWO moves 700 miles away. did ALL my research on the net, made phone calls to HR. Then arranged phone interviews. Once I had an interest, I made the treck. Several hospitals split the cost, offered volunteer employees to "put me up" and so on.

As a nurse, in such a needed profession, a head hunter is a waste of time, unless you are searching for management or admisistrative possibilities. IMHO.

I have moved many, many times in my life and have found all of my jobs by myself. The one time I tried a headhunter (right out of grad school), I did not have a positive experience -- so I never went back to one. I have talked to many over the phone who call me to see if they can lure me away to some other place, but I have never found them very helpful -- either as a person seeking a job, or when my hospital is trying to fill a job.

The problem I had when I used one to help me find a job is that she kept trying to get me to interview for jobs that weren't right for me. She had hospital clients with empty positions and she was trying to find people ("head hunt") to fill those positions. So, she kept trying to get me to interview here, interview there, in the hopes that one would be a fit and she would get paid by the hospital for having filled that position. All of the jobs she had to steer me into were advertised in journals, newspapers, etc. ... and I am sure in today's world, they would all be found on the hospital's web site, etc. So ... unless there is some special reason you think you can not find positions to apply for, I don't see why the average nurse would need to use a headhunter to find a job -- even for advanced positions.

However, if there is some special reason you are having a problem finding a job or selling yourself to get your foot in the door for interviews, then a headhunter might be the way to go.

Thanks for the info. One of the reasons I was looking for a headhunter is because I am looking for a job that's 'outside the box'. Not a hospital or SNF position. I am certainly not looking for any headhunters out there to contact me directly or post a message here. What I'm looking for is someone who has had a good experience and can recommend someone to me, or for others just to share their experiences as you all have done. Thanks!
