Reasons for not getting into a for profit school?

Hello! I was wondering if those of you who applied for a for profit school rn or Lvn program and did not get into their program could tell me why?! Specifically in southern Cali? Friend of a friend said she made it all the way to an interview after passing her teas, background check and whatnot and then was rejected. Any insight would be very appreciated.

Please and thank you

Most places don't consider applicants from for profit schools.

You would do better taking a nursing program at a local community college. Less money.

For profits take anyone regardless of their intelligence. Sounds harsh but true.

@futurepsychern:

You have not answered the questions I ask. I suspect you may be a shill for the for-profit post secondary college industry. Do not lead others astray just to justify your poor, survival of the fittest, choice. In fact, you are to be considered a bit of a Judas goat for semi-advocating this failing industry.

Anyone considering nursing school should verify their school's quality at collegescorecard.edu.gov. Here you will find that most, if not all, for-profit schools listed have incredibly low graduation rates, retention rates and are incredibly expensive compared to many of the alternatives.

In addition, schools run by Education Management Corporation and University of Phoenix to name a few, are owned by Wall Street vulture capitalist firms and are financially on the skids; and we all know how much they care about nursing education.

So if you want to play Russian roulette to justify your bad choice, go ahead, but please refrain from leading others down this perilous path.

So yes, trust me. I am an advocate for nurses with 30 years of experience. I am not on the payroll. I would recommend these loan mills if they performed well---but they don't!

Anyone considering a for-profit school is grasping at straws whether they know it or not. Would-be nurses, you can do so much better. Just research your possibilities as if your life, both family and financial, depended on it. And you know it surely does these days.

Fortunately for all of us, most nurses have empathic personalities, but when selecting a nursing school my colleagues, make it strictly ALL business. And no, all schools are not the same.

@KCMnurse the schools pass rates are good (my own research not what was put in front of me)

also at least here in SoCal the places I have been employed (which are reputable) hire new grad from a lot of for profits schools. If you want to get somewhere super prestigious its kindve a matter of experience at that point and not where you graduated, might take longer but I've seen it. Also as of right now there is a cc and a for profit school that's on ~notice~ from the CA BON that they could pull their programs (not hearsay, it's on the CA Gov website). This seems common/not so out of the norm bc I've had cowrokers at different schools tell me their program at some point was on notice as well, APU's fast track in particular. You just have to change what wrong and have someone come check it out again...kinda like a food inspection. (This happened to APU like two-three years ago tho, not recent).

The pass rates at all for profits are great. They give everyone A's regardless of your work. Plus, most places will NOT hire students from for profits. They take anyone regardless of your intelligence. Harsh but true.

Cheaper going to a local community college where your credits will transfer to other institutions that don't accept credits from for profits.

The OP needs to educate themselves when it comes to for profit "colleges".
