I'm just wondering why someone's BAC would continue to go up and up and up upon recheck even 5 hours after admission onto the unit. The RN I'm working with says that with it being 5 hours since admit the BAC should not still be going up.

Maybe they just had one last "binge" right before coming in and that's why it kept going up after admit.

If you add table salt to hand sanitizer it separates the gel from the etoh and u can skim off the gel and you get straight alcohol. (Learned that from a prison guard)

Also, when was this guys last drink? He may still be digesting it"

I work in small County jail. Some of our inmate workers got the hand sanitizer and made a batch of hootch with it. They were pretty tipsy, which got the attention of the deputies. It was surprising to the nurses that anyone would do that. First of all, it had to taste awful!! Second, of course they got caught, lost all their "good time," and many other privileges. Just so stupid. These people don't think about consequences before they do things, I guess.

It usually goes up when they drink the hand sanitizer (if you've got that); otherwise I would check the instruments and search the room.
