One of my friend failed ADN school. Now she wants to reapply to another nursing school to obtain her BSN. Would the other school know that she flunked nursing school before or should she disclose this to the school that she is applying to?? Could this affect her acceptance to the new school???

yes they would know, because she has to submit all her transcripts. yes this could affect her chances of getting accepted.

yes it will effect her getting into nursing school. it's very hard to get back into another program. it is competitive that they don't have to take anyone they don't want esp with a blemish on their transcripts. good luck to your friend. tell her not to give up.

The prerequisite were done at a different school from the nursing program. I thought you start clean once you failed one school. That you only send the prerequisites in to the other. The GPA for the prerequisites is about 3.8. Some schools like the one I graduated from base it from the GPA and NET test. I did not know they can check if you previously attended nursing school.

The application for the program that I want to attend states to send transcripts from all universities and colleges attended. I do not know how they could find out if you did not send in some transcripts.

I guess the fear would be that they somehow find out, and then rescind any offer to their program. If they found out after she is in the program, I am not sure if they would kick her out or not. It's a gamble for sure.

She is suppose to submit all transcripts but I don't see how the other school would know that she flunked out if she doesn't send the transcripts from that school. Unless, the schools use the same database, there really is no way to know.

I don't know what the consequences are for witholding transcripts but I'm assuming that if they later found out, she could probably be dismissed.

I have friends that failed last year and didn't get accepted back when they tried again.

I wonder if there is some kind of national database between colleges for just this kind of thing. I don't think a college would run a background check on an applicant before admittance, would they? I figure colleges you attended would show up on a background check, but I am not even sure of that! I can certainly understand your friend wanting to just forget about that failed attempt. I know I would be too chicken to actually try to pull one over on a college, though.

If it were me, I would just try to find a program that might be more forgiving. My current college of choice just bases acceptance on prereq grades and residency. So even if they saw that I had failed out of a previous program, they would not be able to base the decision on that.

I wish your friend luck!

If you apply for financial aid, the financial aid office has access to all of your records, including any school you have ever received financial aid at.

I don't know how it works if you don't apply for aid. I would be afraid to try.

There is no national database for college students..............

But if the next college is in the same town/city/county then I can assure you that the faculty from one knows the faculty from another.......(only so many clinical sites available) and they talk.

Background checks before school?......yes. But background checks are different than scholastic checks.

Have your friend call the school she is thinking about attending and ask them what they're policies are concerning failing one school then applying to another. She can do so without giving her name, she'll know the answer and can make the decisions she needs to based on that.

In all of the applications I've seen and/or completed (community college, public or private 4-year university) there there is a statement indicating you that the applicant agree to submit copies of all college level coursework, whether it applies to the program at hand or not. The consequences of not doing so, and the school finding out later, can mean termination from a program.

I would never take a chance on this, it is better to be honest about your academic past. Tell your friend to take the high road on this, or she will always be watching her back to determine if or when they find out the truth.

In terms of how a school can or will find out, it can be associated with any financial aid an individual has received in the past, but is probably not limited to just this.

I had to withdraw from a nursing program in New Orleans as a result of Katrina (I was 2 weeks into it and hadn't earned a grade), and the fact that they were very slow to send my transcripts here cost me a semester - even though all they showed was a line of W's. Now, I never considered saying I hadn't attended, because my application said the same thing - send all college transcripts for any school attended, whether or not a course was completed or grade earned. Also, Florida probably isn't the only state that has a system that shows all the grades you've earned at colleges in the state (probably just public schools, but I'm not sure). It's an online database, so if I fail out of my current program and wanted to lie about it I'd have to leave the state. Just doesn't seem worth it.
