I bought the manual and practice test from the AIT website. I thought the manual was helpful. I practiced a lot of the math since it had been years since I had taken math. I think I studied for about a week straight before the test.

Don't get discouraged. My number last year around this time was 188 and by January I was 67. When orientation came in May, I was number 27! A lot of people end up dropping off the list. I recommend that you take the TEAS, if you haven't already done so. I also recommend that you start saving money now. I don't work but some students do and they're having a difficult time keeping up. The program itself is not difficult, it's just a lot of reading and once you get behind, it's hard to catch up. Books are expensive (about $700 for the first semester), on top of that uniforms, and the immunizations (if you don't have them), etc.. Many of us buy books outside of what is required and that can add up too. Hang in there and Good luck to both of you!

Can I ask you what military grant you're referring to? My husband is also in the military but I am not aware of any grants. Thanks!

The average waiting list for San Diego community colleges is 2-3 yrs. If you want an ADN, you will have to complete general education requirements for the degree. I recommend that you speak to school counselors to asses the courses you have taken. You might be able to petition the classes. Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't get in for the Spring. You never though. There are a lot of people on multiple lists. I know two other people at school who are still on the list at Grossmont. I know it's silly to be in the list after we're already in school but with budget cuts and all that we didn't want to give up our spot just in case things changed. Hang in there. I know the waiting is long but it's worth it :)

I don't think Southwestern is competitive. I think that it just takes so long because they accept students once a year. Sadly, we have no say in clinicals. Names are randomly drawn.

January 2006. I was accepted for this Fall but I went to City instead. I kept my name on the list-just in case

I'm not 100% sure but I thought that for marijuana, that it could only be detected 3 months back. I seriously doubt that it can be detected 2 or 3 yrs back. Google it, I'm sure you can find the answer there. Good luck!

I'm a first year student at SD City College. The program has its pros and cons. I think the administration is a bit unorganized but overall, I'm happy there. The majority of instructors are great and very helpful. They really want everyone to pass and are available if you need help. Clincals this semester were Tues/Weds although one group of students got Fri/Sat. Clincals are at various hospitals- Kaiser Permanente on Zion, Sharp Coronado, Scripps Green, Paradise Valley and I can't think of the others. I think year two gets to go attend different hospitals like Balboa Naval Hospital and Scripps in Encinitas. It took me 2.5 years to get in. It doesn't matter what score you get on the TEAS as long as you pass it with a 67%. I scored close to a 90%. Although it doesn't matter as long as you pass with the 67%, I have noticed that those who barely passed or took it more than once, struggled a bit. Nursing students start 2 weeks earlier than the other students every semester. We have a lot of group projects, which most of us hate, LOL! We have to write a few papers and do presentations. I applied to Palomar, Grossmont, City, and Southwestern. I got accepted to all except Southwestern for this Fall. I was an alternate at Southwestern. Good luck!

Hi, It's my first year at City College. I waited 2.5 years to get in. You have to pass the TEAS test and once your number comes up, you're in. Make sure you have all of your other General Ed completed before you start the program. The program is split into two 9 week sections and every 9 weeks, you take two classes. You will start 2 weeks before everyone else and the coursework is quite heavy. I also suggest that you start saving money now. Between books, uniforms, and immunizations, it can get pricey if you're not going to work. The people who work over 25 hours per week tend to fall behind because of all the reading. Good luck!!!

We had our orientation today and there is another one on Friday for students entering this Fall. They invited 80 students although they are only admitting 60 students. I guess 18 students went to different schools last year after orientation so they wanted to make sure they had enough people there in case someone dropped out. Letters will probably will go out this summer once they figure how many people will start the program in the Fall. Most of the people there today waited 2 yrs. A lot of the same people are also on Grossmont's and Southwestern's waiting lists so when they clear the lists, you tend to get closer to getting in. Good luck! :)

From what I recall, my math portion consisted of percentages, ratios, and fractions. I think I had one graph question and several word problems. I used the study guide available on the ATI website and also found this website useful: http://www.testprepreview.com/teas_practice.htm BTW-I'm not in the LVN program.
