Really, how is it?

I just wanted to know, how nursing school really is? What do the teachers expect of you? Clinical, were they hard, do you like them? I have heard how ruff nursing school is and I wanted you guys to tell me. I haven't begun nursing classes yet. Hopefully I will be in the fall!! I am curious to how you guys, nursing students cope with everyday life and school. Should I expect the worse? Were you scared the first time you were in clinical?:uhoh3: Thank you for your inputs!!!!!!!! Sorry I got a little chatty:lol2:

:) Welcome to allnurses.com :)

A pre-nursing student,

Angels' :)

I heard all the horror stories before starting nursing school and it terrified me. I've just finished my first year though and I was pleasantly surprised at how it went. I didn't have any unreasonable instructors (they were all really nice) and I felt like I was adequately prepared for everything I was expected to do. It was A LOT of work and I had to sacrifice almost all of my free time but I think it's worth it. I appreciate free time so much more now. My first institutional experience was really scary at first but I started getting more comfortable in my role as a student nurse and I felt so at ease in the hospital by the time I was finished. They didn't expect too much from me at this first institutional practice since it was my first time. I still felt proud to be helping and being able to do things by myself (even if it was just taking a blood glucose measurement or feeding a patient). I ended up having a great time and I'll always look back on it with fond memories.

All in all, it was stressful and I had to leave my comfort zone more times than I can count but it has been a great experience so far and I'm looking forward to my second year :) Good luck and welcome to AllNurses.com!
