Really surprised... but I LOVED mental health!

Published

I've worked in mental health in the past and was CERTAIN I would never go into mental health nursing because I didn't think I'd want to deal with that level of crazy all day every day but last night was my first mental health rotation and I really LOVED it.

I know that the amazing staff made a heck of a difference in my experience. they were so accomodating to me and answered all my silly questions. They were REALLY good with the patients. I was in the adolescent wing which was something I've not experienced before (always worked with adults in the past).

I have 70 days until I graduate and it's exciting to me that I can still find enjoyment through all the stress of school :)

I ended up loving mental health also. Then I had ob and thought that I would really hate that and actually ended up falling in love with it, more than mental health. I also ended up really liking med-surg, which I didn't think that I would. I did not like the OR, recovery, ER, or ICU. It's funny how nursing school is completely different then what you expect sometimes.

I liked it enough I got an inpatient psych tech and start tomorrow! :D.

God bless you. I just CANT. I can't. I was pulling my hair out.

I agree! I'm like 1/3 of the way through my mental health semester and I'm literally counting down the hours until it's over. I just hate it! But I just need to do my best so I'm not right back here next semester.

That's AWESOME!! Congrats :) The nurse I followed my first night decided he didn't want to do anything BUT MH nursing after he graduated and got a job within 3 months! That whole team was one of the most positive and upbeat nursing teams I'd encountered in nursing school
