Really jealous of everyone starting nursing school in the fall!

Published

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm currently taking my pre reqs for nursing school. I've actually been going to community college for 2 years already and have taken all the pre reqs but just got rejected from the nursing program with a 3.5 GPA and 78 TEAS exam. It's so competitive it drives me crazy. But I'm just going to retake the classes I got a B in and work my butt off to get in next year!! Sometimes I want to give up and take an "easier" major but it takes about 2 seconds before I realize why I want to be a nurse... and my time will come and all my hard work will pay off. I'm currently planning my April 2013 wedding so hopefully all this planning will take the sting off not getting accepted. Just wanted to share my story and hopefully will meet lots of other people in the same boat as me :)

Can't you try other schools that are not as competitive? Or is this one school the one you are set on? Congrats on the wedding!

I'm just starting my pre req's that "count" next month and will be applying in spring of 2013 for a hopeful fall 2013 enrollment. It's been driving me crazy worrying about how to get great grades plus this stinking TEAS test! I think you have a wonderfully positive attitude and that will take you far! Congrats on your wedding! I've been married for 14 years to my high school sweetheart and we have 5 kids together. It's gonna be a challenge and I hope that everyone here gets into their program of choice : )

Thanks again everyone :) the thing with applying to another school is every other community college has COMPLETELY different pre req requirements, I think they do it on purpose to keep you from applying to multiple high-competitive programs- which is totally uncool. So it's not like I'm even eligible to apply for back ups unless i take multiple semesters to take all these random classes. I can, and plan on, applying to the 4 year BSN program (but I REALLY don't want to start over cause I've already taken all the pre reqs!!) which I should have done this past year but missed the deadline... I know for a fact I'll get into that cause I knock their transfer student requirements out of the park, so that's my backup this time around if I don't get in again. Slowly but surely, I will get where I want to be. And thanks for everyone who congratulated me on the wedding! It IS a huge life event so I think I can handle focusing on my big day until next spring comes around and I re apply.

Congrats on being together for so long! My fiance is my high school sweetheart, but he was in college when we met, so i guess I'm his college sweetheart? lol I don't know how that works. ANYWAY, if you are worried about the TEAS, I highly recommend the Mcgraw hill nursing school entrance exam book, if you really go through and familiarize yourself with each section and take the practice tests, you'll do a lot better on the TEAS! i've bought 3 books and that one worked the best.

Thank you! I have the ATI review book and just ordered the McGraw review testing book as well as chemistry and biology for dummies books lol. I'm a wreck over it but that does make me feel better! I'm more worried about the science portion. I've been out of school for so long they didn't even teach about DNA when I was in high school lol! I think it was actually just starting to be used by forensics back then. I am so happy to have found this site, you guys have all given me a lot of great info and hope! LOL

You know what... jealous of those who are starting nursing school?? GOOD, you should be! That jealously is going to start a fire in your soul that will make you more determined to get in!

Never give up, keep trying, hold onto your dreams!

ebailey I couldn't agree more!! I totally want to be in that spot because I know it's where SO many people want to be!! It's making me more and more determined to get in :)

sjtrk: Hope it helps!! I tried the ATI review book but it didn't do much for me! it made everything seem like common sense but once I got to the test it didn't improve my grade at all, the mcgraw hill book hit the nail on the head, especially in the math portion. my problem was I didn't start studying early enough (big mistake) and really only got time to concentrate on the math portion, which i killed! science, not so much. So i'll be sure to go back through both math and science and come next test time, I'm hoping to break 82 :)

I'm sure you can do it now that you know what to study on! : ) I'm not taking mine until January so hopefully I figure everything out by then LOL.

Hang in there! Do not give up!!! It took me 5 rejections, many doubts, and too many tears before I was finally accepted!

I start in spring 2013. I was so close to throwing in the towel and switching my major but i want to be a nurse more than anything! I figured I'd give it a go one more time and I am so happy I did!

You will get into nursing school! Good luck with everything : )

Thank you all sooo much, it really does help knowing other people have been in his situation before because there really is that feeling of hopelessness and defeat that I have to overcome. Stephalump, your story is amazing, that's great you were able to get back on your feet and congrats on your little one :) I know it's difficult going to school with a child, my mom went back to school after her 7th child and had 2 more while in school! She's the main reason I think "if my mom could do it there's no reason I can't." and I agree about the wedding planning, deep down I know it's better this way that we can focus on the wedding and if I was in NS I have a feeling I'd be too distracted. Thanks again everyone

Thank you so much! It's amazing how much more you appreciate the little (and big!) things in life when you've lost everything and had to fight tooth and nail to get it back. And the baby...well, he's an absolute blessing. :)

I love hearing that your mom's determination is inspiration for you! I think that's all so many of us want...to leave a mark on our kids and show them that they can achieve big things. I hope our kids are inspired by us someday. :)
