Thsi video almost tore my heart out as to why these real Americans cannot get health insurance. It's just a shame that citizens like these are having to choose between bare necessities and health care. Only in America.

74 percent of children are eligible for public programs...yeah right that is a joke. We got booted from our insuraunce a few months ago because my FOUR year old little boy has severe excema and too many pre-exsisting conditions..this was an employer provided healthcare coverage. It upsets me that so many people out there think this is not happening. Please wake up. This is a four year old child. We don't qualify for medicaid..we are middle class americans, the private insurances are saying he is too "high risk" I would give an arm and a leg to get him on insurance right now. I stay up late and worry without end that something is going to happen to him and we will be plum out of luck. It is scary! I am a college grad., I have payed off my loans, I have a house, I have a savings account that I would gladly pay for insuraunce w/(if we could find some: () we are AMERICAN CITIZENS he should be able to have insuraunce. I am willing to pay for insuraunce, I have called many companies(over 30) and NO ONE will cover him because he has asthma and excema!!! How high risk can a four year old be..? And to top it all off, I was talking to my neighbor the other day(who is not an american citizen) who has four children and she said...don't you just love medicaid:banghead:? I wouldnt know. Thats whats wrong with the system. So for all the people out there that think that this is not happening, you are just one step away from it happening to you. Just ask yourself this; if your insuraunce decided to drop you because you got cancer..where would you be able to go and get quality care? The truth; nowhere. You would be out of luck.

"My 4 yo denied coverage"
Please check out your states Children's Health Insurance Program http://www.insurekidsnow.gov/states.asp
Federal law requires that CHIP applicants whose income is over the free CHIP limits (200 percent of federal poverty guidelines - a family of four making more than $41,300/year) have to be without insurance for six months before being enrolled, with some exceptions. This requirement is part of the law and is used to prevent employers and/or consumers from dropping private health coverage to enroll in a public program. CHIP is strictly for families with no other available health coverage. Please note that the six month period of uninsurance does not apply to those who eligible for free CHIP. For those in the low-cost and at-cost CHIP programs, exceptions to the six month rule include: the child is under age two; the child has lost health benefits because a parent lost their job; or the child is moving from another public health insurance program.

I did not think this could happen; at least if you were making your payments on time. My friends mother has osteocarcinoma and they continue to pay for all of her stuff and have never dropped her but they are waiting for the day that she is one day late on her payments...
Wow didn't realize all the patients on the oncology floor were without health insurance because they were dropped when they got cancer. Didn't realize all these surgeries we do at my hospital were on uninsured because they were dropped once insurance found out they needed surgery. Wow ddin't realize everyone who has insurance will be dropped as soon as they see a doctor for any ailment.
No one gets dropped simply because they have asthma and eczema. Both are very manageable diseases. Did you have insurance prior to taking this job? I believe there is more to this story than you are repeating here. if your child had health insurance prior to this job then you should be covered under your new policy usually the wait is up to about one year with a pre existing condition if no coverage during the past 12 months.
Since my staff and I perform over 2,000 insurance eligibility checks per month, I see dropping coverage very frequently in those employers who have self insured insurance plans when an employee or their dependent happens to develop an illness that carries with it high risk of hospitalization. Just one person with high insurance costs can push them over self-funded limits so member gets dropped. (See this often in small unions with less than 50 members and restaurant chains insurance). About 2 % of our patients have health insurance without any home health care benefit.
Upon turning 21 and leaving college. my oldest was denied Blue Cross HMO coverage (rate ~$90/mo) due to 1 hospitalization for kidney stones.....but was able to pick up individual Blue Cross PPO plan at $320.00 month.

Funny thing is, is that this situation is directly caused by your STATE GOVERNMENT. And then so many want government even deeper in our business. There are GOVERNMENT guidelines as to which and how many companies are allowed in each state and what coverage they can offer. Many would like to blame the insurance companies but it's the GOVERNMENT.
And it's even more pathetic that people want good food and they pay top dollar for it. Somehow. They want perfect cars and they pay top dollar for them. They buy houses with more rooms that people in the family and pay for them. And yet good health care is unaffordable. I fail to see that logic.
