Has anyone out there ever completed all the reading required of you during nursing school? I'm in an accelerated program, and with 19 credit hours, multiple clinical rotations, papers, care plans, projects, and oh yeah, a life, it seems utterly impossible to keep up with reading. Yet it seems as though the professors think we have 48 hours in a day and no classes other than theirs! Just wondering...

I do the best I can, but really its impossible to get ALL the reading done. I wouldnt be able to do anything else. I just try to skim what I havent read & highlight the important info.

Oh the joys of an accelerated program!
I too am taking 19 credits this semester....this past week was my first and I already feel soooooooooooooo behind!
All I can suggest is skim, skim, skim! And take the practice questions as the end of the chapters to help supplement. If you have a problem answering a question, go back and review.
At least thats my plan of attack!

Isnt the accelerated program just extra-difficult during summer?

I start out reading as much as possible but then lose momentum after the first tests hehe. It is hard to be a diligent reader when you have 5+ chapters per class each week.
Yes and no. Traditional students (at least at my school) don't attend classes in summer. In the fall, our schedules were pretty similar to the traditional students'. This semester, our schedule is a bit tougher.
Good ideas. Thanks. It's good to know I'm not alone. I'm actually in my third semester, and that is what I've been doing so far, it just seems like this semester is a bit heavier on the reading. I had been sticking mostly with the lecture notes. We'll see... Thanks again! Good luck to you!
ditto here as well. This first semester is our toughest, credit wise. We are taking 16 credits in the summer and going from mid May-early Aug. The fall semester starts at the end of August. And we are taking 17 credits then. And then I think another 16/17ish for next Spring.
I dont think that the summer semester is any harder than our current one. Its just that most students have this off, but most of those in an accelerated program go straight through.
I'm in my third semester, and what you are doing sounds like a great plan. That is basically what I have been doing (and focusing heavily on lecure notes), but this semester seems to be heavier on the reading, so I hope I'm not doomed! Good luck to you in your program. Advice I got was to focus on the now, because there's no time to work ahead... that's been pretty true. Thanks!

I do read all of the chapters because I'm afraid i'll miss something, but most people do okay with skimming.
You must be a faster reader than me :chuckle
