? Re my military under honorable and nursing??

Published

Hi I have a question I hope you all can help me with. I am a LPN with 15 years of experience. I recently decided to try to become a corrections nurse d/t the hours and benefits. I have an interview on Sept 29,2010. My question is this--- Can I be looked down upon when they see my military DD-214? I mean I was let out early for misconduct when I was younger in 1991 after I did 4 months in Saudi Arabia in the first gulf war. I was very young and stupid. I got a general under honorable discharge so I could of have been allowed to return if I obtained a waiver to get me back in. Actually they wanted me to stay but like I said I was young and stupid. I have never had a ding to my name. I have 0 convictions, I never used drugs and I do not drink.

Any ways That is my question. Can my misconduct on the DD214 cause me heartache/concern for this job? Even though it was under honorable conditions and I am a Gulf war vet that served over in country during the conflict??

I would love to know prior to the interview. I really has me worried. Thanks, Theresa R:confused:

Oh BTW I think my entry code was a 3? Which ment I could return to the army after I obtained some sort of waiver. Unsure how hard that would be if I really ever wanted back in. Any one know or know of anyone that went after this waiver and what it entails?

If the officer gave a art 15 that means they where in a command position.

Were you there? I have been in the military for almost 9yrs now, and enlisted missing a salute happens everyday on every base. Article 15s can't be given out by just any officer. An Article 15 has to be given out by a Commanding Officer on special orders serving in that position. There is more to that story than what your friend is telling you.

Agree, Missing the salute was the start. What happened after the officer stopped him for not saluting is the question.

I am an O3 and can not give out a article 15. But like any senior, enlisted or officer, they can place someone on report and the company will decied if an art. 15 is warranted.

The individual is black. I think that is all the other information I need to know. It is no longer germaine to this thread which is about people not getting hired into corrections.

LOL You guys sorry everyone is fighting:( anyways does anyone have a thought to what I was asking and what else I have told you all? Just wondering.

You will need to deal with the hiring authority. I assumed that my acquaintance was dealing with a bureaucracy that did not have the initiative or the ability to discern that his military disciplinary record was less than minor. I only mentioned it to let you know that bureaucrats may have no idea how to properly evaluate individual situations or they are given strict, impossible guidelines to make their jobs easier. Your RE 3 discharge criteria could, in itself, be a factor used by them or they could just be going by the narrative summary of your discharge paperwork. Any and all of this is something that you need to take up with the people making the decisions. They will most likely not be forthcoming with the criteria if you are not selected. You will have to be proactive to find out the details.

wow ok. Well I did go for the interview but they stated they would be interviewing for next 4 days for only one position!!! Then from the ones they pick it will go somewhere else for the final picks?? unsure where it goes from there. I am to the point of almost giving up on a state job st least in the correctional:confused:if this does not pan out. I guess I could go for the VA hospital. I mean I have a lot of experience in the hospital settings and I am a respiratory/ventilator nurse. Guess that will count

That is utter crap to think the modern military tolerates discrimination based on race. There aren't rogue commanding officers running around giving out Article 15's in the military for nothing. Officers like that do not last in the military. Commanding Officers are still only one part of the food chain, and every Solider/Sailor/Airman/Marine has legal recourse from the Area Defense Counsel, Military Equal Opportunity, and Inspector General to address any discrimination issues real or perceived in the military.

Unless you were there you shouldn't presume anything about this situation, and no I won't quit commenting on any thread when someone deems to make disparaging remarks about the military when they have personal knowledge or background to even discuss these things.

And what color was the officer. Like I said in my earlier post there is a lot more going on then just what you are being told. Also if it was raced based why did he/she not follow up with JAG, EO, Congressman, etc.

Of course, the race card. You must be a LeBron James fan :lol2:
