I think the "nursing shortage" applies to experienced RNs, not new grads. Although I was able to get a job before graduation, many of my classmates are having a hard time finding a new grad program. A few of them - not realizing the shortage of new grad programs - were a bit haughty when interviewing because they anticipated they would be i huge demand, and I think they really shot themselves in the foot.
Might just be your region. We recruit and hire new grads, and offer a 6 month orientation in the ER.
Aloha again! I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your encouragement. It made a complete difference for me. I am relocating to Sacramento on Thursday. I have been offered multiple positions in Washington, (Tacoma and Gig Harbor) and if I can find some temporary housing to get me started, I'm accepting!! Your encouragement to branch out a little made all the difference. I can't thank you enough!

I would love to see more opportunities. I graduated in May. I have 25 years in psych, outstanding references and a willingness to learn. I cannot find any place here hiring new grads and few places on the mainland. Honestly, I feel like I made a huge mistake going back to become a nurse. Everyone wants a year of experience but the catch 22 of who will hire you to get that year seems to be the order of the day. I am frustrated and ready to go back to psych work just to have a job. They sure didn't cover any of this in nursing school! Help!? Any advice, anyone?
