Rasmussen University - Fort Myers

Hello everyone!

I was looking into Rasmussen College in Fort Myers, Florida. I was wondering if there was anyone who has attended or currently attending Rasmussen at the Fort Myers campus? What were/are your thoughts on the program? Since I already have a B.S. in Exercise Science, I was looking at doing the A-BSN, Second Degree option. I have already attended a Nursing Information Session with the school and it seems like a great opportunity. Just looking to get more insight about the program from people who have gone through it.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your response. I'm planning to get my ADN but I don't know if I should just go for my bachelors. Can you give me an estimate of how much you will be paying for your ABSN? Supposedly they told me I just need a Humanities course and I go for the BSN. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it was going to cost me more to do the ADN than it was for the ABSN, but I am not sure if the ADN included pre-reqs I had already taken.

Overall, my tuition will have cost about $36k, but I get a 10% discount because I am prior military. They also do a 10% discount if you work or have a parent that works for a corporate partner. They have a list.

I also received a scholarship (not from Rasmussen) for $2500, so that will help reduce my overall cost, as well. I definitely recommend looking for nursing scholarships!

If I am not mistaken, the ADN was going to cost around $41k-$42k for the entire program and the ABSN was going to cost around $40k. But this was as of last November. I don't know if things have changed.

I want to say the ADN is a quarter shorter than the ABSN, so it allows you to start working sooner. That being said, you can finish with a BSN in one extra quarter, as opposed to going back to school for another year or two once you get your ADN.

Ultimately, you have to do what works best for you. I have a great support system that allows me to really focus on school and not have to work much. I know not everyone has that opportunity. Not that working is impossible while attending Rasmussen. I know people who do it. But it's an accelerated program, so you really have to be on top of your stuff.

And again, I definitely recommend going to an info session. You can also reach out to a program manager at the campus for more info.

Thanks so much for the information! It was very helpful. Wish you good luck on your journey and don't forget to keep us informing with the updates ?

Good morning!

I am now in Week 7 of Quarter 3 of the ABSN program at Rasmussen College - Ft Myers. I just took my second exam for Adult Health - Acute Care (aka MedSurg 1) and I scored a 90.67%! Let me tell you... this was the hardest exam I have had so far. It was primarily priority questions (i.e. which action would you take first, what is the best action to take, etc.). There were also quite a few SATA questions, which always makes me nervous. This exam covered Respiratory, Cardiology, Immunology, Endocrinology, and Hematology, so A LOT of info covered in 3 weeks. Anything covered for the first exam was also fair game (Renal, Urinary, Integumentary, Fluid and Electrolyte Balance). So, needless to say, I was extremely nervous going into the exam. I did not sleep well the night before. And after the exam I was very unsure of how I performed. Overall, though, I am happy with my score. Now the focus will be shifted to ATI...

Yesterday we discussed the details about taking the proctored ATI MedSurg exam in a few weeks. I am personally not thrilled about this because we will have only had 10 weeks of MedSurg coursework and I have heard the ATI MedSurg is a tough exam. It is 90 questions and we must score a Level 2 to pass (63/90 correct, which is approximately 68.9%). The proctored exam is also worth 50 points (9%) towards our class grade. In order to receive the full 50 points, we must score a Level 3 (72/90 = 81.1%). A Level 2 will earn a 42.5/50 (85%). In past courses a Level 2 was worth 46/50 (92%). So, I am a little bummed one of the hardest ATI exams is worth significantly less points for a passing score. I think what also makes it sting a little is the cohort ahead of us says they do not take the ATI MedSurg exam until their last quarter. I apologize if it seems like I am complaining. Just venting a bit. And trying to keep everyone informed about the program. So, if you haven't heard already, nursing school is no joke! haha

Regardless of my cohort's situation, I am going to re-frame my perspective and welcome this challenge. My goal is to pass every ATI exam on the first attempt. I do not want to retake any of them. I have confidence I can accomplish this using NRSNG and Picmonic. I used those two resources and some of the ATI Medsurg quizzes to study for this last exam. I did not read my book at all (which is very unlike me) and I still performed well. I sincerely believe I can use this method to pass the ATI and, fingers crossed, get an A in Acute.

I hope everyone is doing well! For those interested in Rasmussen College - Ft. Myers, I hope I did not scare you off. haha It is a great program. Tough, but great. Until next time, happy nursing!

Hello,

I am interested in starting the nursing program at Rasmussen too this September. Reading this thread has helped a lot and provided a lot of insight! I have a previous Bachelor's degree, but I have not completed chemistry. I would like an opinion on how long the program would take me and more info on tuition from a current student.

Good morning fellow nursing students, future nursing students, and any nurses who may be following along!

Yesterday was my last clinical day of the quarter! Although it feels great to have completed clinical, I cannot wait to start back up again next quarter. I love working with patients, applying the skills we have learned, and learning new skills.

Now, the focus will be shifted to preparing for the ATI MedSurg exam and my final exam. I am definitely nervous about the ATI exam because it covers so much information and I do not know if I will be able to review it all in time. I have about 12 days to finish getting prepared, so I am definitely going to be busy over the next couple of weeks.

I know some programs just started back up, so I hope everyone is enjoying their classes! Wish everyone the best in their nursing journey. And until next time, happy nursing!

the info session was great i'm more eager to start now .I cant wait .

Hello hello! Time for another update!

Today was my last day of "classes" this quarter. We had to be up bright and early this morning for simulations in our Adult Health: Acute Care class. I really enjoyed the experience of the simulations. I wish we had had more of them during the quarter.

I also took my MedSurg ATI yesterday! That was probably the hardest exam I have taken in nursing school so far. For some reason, our school is giving us two MedSurg ATIs: one for Acute Care and one for Chronic Care. So, I guess I will have to take another MedSurg ATI next quarter, but I am not 100% sure. ? The details were a little fuzzy. Anyhow, I scored a Level 2 on this ATI, which means I passed and I do not have to retake it! Thank goodness! And to give you an idea of how difficult this exam was, I was the only one in my cohort to pass on the first try.

We also got our schedules for next quarter and I will be taking:

-Adult Health: Chronic and Transitional Care Lecture, Lab, and Clinical

-Dimensions of Mental and Behavioral Health Lecture, Clinical

-Quality and Safety in Nursing Practice

We will find out more about our Mental Health clinical on Monday just before our final exam.

As much fun as this quarter has been, I am definitely ready for a break! The amount of written assignments we have had to complete this quarter was a bit much and I found myself losing motivation to do them for a few weeks. They just get tedious and often seemed they were not helping to further our education. Not to sound like a negative Nelly, just keeping it real with you guys.

I hope everyone else is having a great nursing experience! I will update you with my final grades here in a couple of weeks and my plans for break. Until next time... Happy Nursing!

Hello everyone,

I want to apply for ABSN in fort Myers Rasmussen in 2020. I already had a bachelor degree of computer science in foreign country.

But I am actually very nervous about going to school because it costs lots of money and time. I have some questions would like to ask people who are in ABSN in Rasmussen.

1, I know that ABSN in Rasmussen is CCNE accredited, not ACEN accredited. I would like to go to MSN in the future to get a master degree. So I am worried about is the accreditation in Rasmussen good for me to get a master degree ?

2, I would like to move out of Florida in the future maybe, can my degree in Rasmussen help me get nursing jobs out of the states? Like NY, California?

3, I hope I can finish school in 2 years. Because my first major was not related to nursing or science. Do you know, in that case, how long will the ABSN take in Rasmussen?

4, Can you get grants from Fasfa? Or just loan ? For a second bachelor degree? How much tuition fee you need to pay ? Do you need to buy extra equipments, books, etc? I really want to figure out if I can afford it. I am just nervous that if I can afford two years costs and I know I can’t have much time to work.

5, Can you get jobs when you graduate? Is it easy to get jobs ? I heard that it is hard for new grads to get jobs.

6, Do you get health insurance from the school?

Thank you so much !

Hey there Ophelia!

Hopefully I will be able to answer some of your questions.

1. Yes, you will be able to apply for Master's degree programs with a BSN from Rasmussen. CCNE is one of the accrediting bodies for nursing programs. Based on what I have seen/read, ACEN accreditation is typically done for Associate's programs and CCNE is typically done for Bachelor's programs.

2. I believe some hospitals do require a degree from an accredited program, but I am not 100% sure how that works. What really matters is obtaining your RN license. With a degree from Rasmussen, you will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN to obtain your license in Florida. Since Florida is part of the compact, you will be able to reciprocate your license and practice in other states. However, those states that are not part of the compact require you to follow certain steps when applying for a license in that state, and each of those states will have different requirements.

3. How long the program will take really depends on what pre-requisite courses you have already completed, how many courses you take each quarter, and how well you perform in the program. If all pre-requisite courses have been completed prior to starting the ABSN program, the fastest you will be able to complete our BSN is 18 months at Rasmussen. I would speak to the program manager to get a better idea of how long it might take you in your case.

4. I do not know if you can receive grants for a second Bachelor's. However, you should be able to take out loans. I know some of my peers are using loans to pay for school and already have one Bachelor's degree. For tuition pricing, I suggest you speak with someone from the school to get accurate information. Scrubs and books are built in to the tuition. You will have to purchase your own stethoscope, shoes, BP cuff, and maybe a few other items. Some of my peers do have part time jobs. It is difficult to work while in school, but it is possible.

5. Yes, you should be able to get a job as a new grad. There are many hospital systems in Florida that offer new grad nurse residencies. That being said, I have heard getting a job in certain specialties can be very difficult as a new grad. In my opinion, it really comes down to the individual. Do you interview well? Do you have strong references? A strong resume? Have you done anything to make yourself stand out? Did you network while in school?

6. I honestly do not know the answer to this question. Again, I suggest speaking to the school about this.

I hope my answers provided some insight!
