Hello everyone!
I was looking into Rasmussen College in Fort Myers, Florida. I was wondering if there was anyone who has attended or currently attending Rasmussen at the Fort Myers campus? What were/are your thoughts on the program? Since I already have a B.S. in Exercise Science, I was looking at doing the A-BSN, Second Degree option. I have already attended a Nursing Information Session with the school and it seems like a great opportunity. Just looking to get more insight about the program from people who have gone through it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey Randon! Thank you for following. I appreciate it.
Application was super easy for me. There is no application fee, which is nice. I know some programs require application fees. You do have to pay for your own drug test and background screening. But wait until they send you the info because they have specific requirements. And if you have to get any vaccines or titers, that is on you, too. But that’s true for any program. So, I would recommend getting all of your immunization records together ahead of time. That’ll save you some stress. Good luck and keep me updated!
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic and safe Fourth of July.
School started back up for me on earlier this week on July 1 at Rasmussen. I am now in my third quarter, which is crazy to think about. After these next ten weeks I will be halfway through my program!
This quarter I am taking the following:
-Transcultural Nursing
-Alternative and Complementary Therapies
-Adult Health: Acute Care (includes lecture, clinical, and lab)
From what I have heard from a friend in the cohort ahead of me this quarter will be very time consuming. Lots of writing and lots of material to cover, especially in Acute Care. We are also slated to take the ATI MedSurg exam at the end of the quarter. Hopefully I can keep my streak alive and pass this one on the first go, as well.
To assist in my studying I have a membership to NRSNG Academy (lifetime membership I purchased last year), SketchyNursing (which I used for Pharm last quarter, but will certainly come in handy this quarter, as well), and I just subscribed to Picmonic. I am a very visual + audio learner (simultaneous), so I feel this strategy will help me to efficiently learn the material.
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break. And for those who do not have summer break (like me!), keep up the great work! You got this!
Until next time...

I see you used SketchyNursing and are now starting to use Picmonic. Here's an AllNurses article about some differences between them, curious what you think???
This website does an interesting comparison too: https://www.nursingstudenttips.com/picmonic-for-nursing-vs-sketchynursing.html
Interesting!
Picmonic definitely has more videos, topics, and quiz questions and I like that it has the book I am using for MedSurg this quarter. I haven't really looked at the pharmacology portion of Picmonic yet. However, based on the "stories" in Picmonic from the videos I have watched, I felt like SketchyNursing was much better at tying the images together. I also feel that some of the images used in Picmonic are a little weird. One that stands out is the use of a "manatee" for mannitol versus a "tall man" for mannitol in SketchyNursing. And although SketchyNursing videos are longer, it's because they combine information that Picmonic spreads over a few videos. Personally, I find all of the information in one video is much easier for me to learn (in the case of pharmacology, easier to memorize the drugs, side effects, and nursing considerations). But everyone learns differently, so I encourage people to use what works for them. SketchyNursing is still adding content. In fact, they just added about 120 quiz questions and they told me they will be adding Nursing Fundamentals sketches later this year.
All of that being said, I am beginning to adjust to how Picmonic presents their information. I am still more of a fan of SketchyNursing, but Picmonic is a fantastic resource. And I think the combination of NRSNG and Picmonic is a killer combo, so I am glad they are collaborating.
Hello hello!
It is time for another update!
I am now in Week 4 of Quarter 3 of the ABSN program at Rasmussen College - Ft. Myers. I had my first exam in Adult Health - Acute Care (aka MedSurg) and I scored a 90.7%! Pretty happy with that score, but there is always room for improvement and always much more to learn.
I have now had two clinical days at the hospital and I love it! I finally feel like I am getting to practice/use nursing skills. But these care plans we have to do... woo! They are brutally long! haha That being said, I know they serve a purpose and will only help us in the end. So, for those who are just getting into nursing school and hear about how awful nursing care plans are, try to reframe that mindset and look at it as an opportunity to make yourself a better nurse.
Alright, that is all I have for now! Nothing super exciting. Just long days, lots of writing assignments, and lots of studying.
Hope everyone is doing well and wish you all the best!

Thank you, charisn26! It has been an amazing journey so far. Stressful at times, but I absolutely love nursing.
Spring 2020 is not too far off! It’ll be here before you know it. I wish you the best! And maybe I’ll see you around campus. ?

Quarter 2 is in the books and my final grades have been posted!
Essentials of Professional Nursing - 95% = A
Pathophysiology - 98% = A
Pharmacology - 93% = B
I was literally 3 points away from an A in Pharm. ? I think this gives me a 3.62 GPA for the quarter, which is still Honor Roll. So, I can't be too upset.
I have made it through one third of the program so far. Four quarters (one year) left to go. I am definitely looking forward to the next few quarters when I get to work in the hospital for my clinical rotations. Now, time for my two week break and then back at it July 1st! I hope everyone is doing well. ?
