Rasmussen University - Fort Myers

Published

Hello everyone!

I was looking into Rasmussen College in Fort Myers, Florida. I was wondering if there was anyone who has attended or currently attending Rasmussen at the Fort Myers campus? What were/are your thoughts on the program? Since I already have a B.S. in Exercise Science, I was looking at doing the A-BSN, Second Degree option. I have already attended a Nursing Information Session with the school and it seems like a great opportunity. Just looking to get more insight about the program from people who have gone through it.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Alright, so although I have already graduated and have nothing further report regarding classes, I thought I would share a little information about my cohort and the loss/gain of students throughout my program.

My cohort started with 14 students in our first quarter. By the end of the quarter, we were down to 10. One had dropped out within the first week, I believe. I am not sure why. Another stopped showing up to class about halfway through. I want to say she was working a lot, and ended up not continuing with the program. One failed a class, and the fourth withdrew from our Health Assessment class, which pushed them both back a quarter.

All 10 of us made it through to the third quarter. At the start of the third quarter, we gained 3 new students from the cohort ahead of us. They were repeating Acute Care (MedSurg). We lost one of the original 10 early on because they were unable to pass the dosage calc quiz required to stay in Acute Care. We lost another who was unable to pass Acute Care for a second time, and I believe was not able to continue in the program. The remaining 11 of us made it through to Quarter 4.

At the start of the fourth quarter, we gained another 3 students who had to retake Chronic Care (MedSurg), putting us at 14 students again. Two of the 3 new additions failed to pass chronic again, along with one of the original cohort members and one of the additions from third quarter. That put us at 10 students total for the last two quarters, and we all graduated together. I believe at least two of our 10 are in what is called "extended incomplete," which means that they have at least one more ATI exam to pass before their name can be released to the Board of Nursing for testing. But they have finished all of the classes.

So, in summary, we started with 14 and graduated with 10. Eight of the 10 were from the original cohort, and two were from cohorts ahead who had to repeat classes for one reason or another.

Hopefully this gives you some insight to the attrition/retention rate for the ABSN program. I will say that the curriculum has changed, and there has been a recent change with the Associate Dean position, as well as instructors. I cannot speak to how students are doing in the new curriculum, but it is supposed to be better and more streamlined.

Alright, that is all I have for now. I hope you all are doing well. Stay safe. Stay healthy. And until next time, happy nursing!

Has anyone who starts Rasmussen on July 6th received an official letter of acceptance?

They've already used my aid to pay for my books and classes that I figured that it was taken care of. I have even already paid over $90 for two sets of scrubs. Then, I got an email from the work study office that I'm ineligible because I don't have an official letter of acceptance on file. My admissions advisor hasn't been answering me...

I'm getting irritated to the point of asking for my money back and selling my scrubs as soon as they get here.

It's not a letter per se but your enrollment agreement should work? I'm starting July 6th too.

No - The work study office said I'm ineligible. What's the point of even providing work study if they don't even officially accept their students?

I don't know, I applied for Work Study too, so I'll see. I would just stay on top of your admissions advisor. You have a schedule, you're enrolled, but your loans haven't been dispersed yet. That doesn't happen until later 2nd week of classes. I would also call the work study office because I didn't receive an official letter of acceptance, either, I just completed all the steps to enroll. You can also call your advisor too. I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet before you absolutely exhaust your options.

By dispersed do you mean personally received the rest of the aid?

I'm trying to message this man but he isn't answering. I ended up messaging the dean because I need answers as to why this seemingly shady thing is happening ?

No, I mean the loans/grants don't reach the school until the 3rd week of the Quarter according to their website. Once the loans/grants reach them, THEN they'll come to you.

I would go over their heads too. Let me know what happens.

That's wild because they've already took the money right out of my aid for this term for books and my classes LMAO.

Really? They haven’t done so for me. The site says I owe $75. It’s already $75 against my loans.

Yeah, I'm also seeing I owe $60. The aid they've used without me accepting or declining like any other school would is showing as 'pending'. Over $700 would be owed to me. It looks to me that they've already used my aid.

@CoeurCommeHepburn I don't know if I would classify it as shady. I believe I received an acceptance letter in the mail, but I do not remember how long it took for me to receive it. You might be able to access the letter if you go to the Student Portal >> Account Center >> My Documents >> Documents >> View Previously Submitted Documents >> AM Letter Acceptance. I can't view my document, but maybe you can. It is worth a shot.
