well, yesterday i went to meet with an ac.advisor @ a nursing school i really want to go to for my BSN, and gave me some helpful advice. right now i'm beginning my prereqs(graduated hs in 06), and am a little worried about the school work. in my intro to bio class i have gotten two "b"'s, one "a" and a "d" on my exams ... i've got a low b as of now in this class w/ one more exam and the final this monday. im only taking 10.5 credit hours and have about a 3.4 gpa on a 4.0 scale right now. in my intermediate algebra class i have an "a". anyways.... i guess i'm kinda freaking out that if im having this kind of trouble w/ these grades in bio, how am i going to handle micro & ap 1and 2. !!!!!!!! when i start to study for bio... i feel bored/unfocused b/c i already learned it all & just frusterated. basically the academic advisor said if when i apply for the program having all my classes done and atleast a 3.8, i would get in.
ahhhh, sorrry guys. summer vaca is sooo close(taking cna course in june) ... its not that im not motivated ... its just hard to stay interested in the stuff we have to know for final...
okay im done:uhoh21:

Hey runner,
It is okay to feel frustrated and down about your grades. If it is any consolation, I came out of Intro to A&P with a C. I was taking 5 classes, working full time and dealing with a family including 4 kids, so I did have a lot on my plate, but Intro is TOUGH, as it encompasses a little of both A&P I & II. I did much, much better in the latter 2 classes and made a B in Micro. It does get better. I was also told that A&P I was the "weed out class" and was much harder than Intro was, but in my case, it was so much easier to understand and take in. I aced that class and have never looked back. Don't let this get you down. Take the summer, refocus and start back with a fresh view on the class. I don't know about your school, but mine doesn't even take Intro as a major grade when factoring points. It is used in the cummulative GPA, but not as the required GPA. Good luck and keep your chin up!!
wow, you just made me feel like 10 times better. !!! thanks soooo much for your reply. Intro is required if you want to take micro and a&pI&II, so it's more GPA. I also heard that a&p was super hard, and is a lot of memorization, but I need to stop stressing about stuff that I don't have to deal with right now. I'm trying to remind myself that it's almost over. I only have statistics left to take as far as math classes, so that makes me a bit happy! I am so glad you did well after Intro!! Thanks again, and good luck

maybe your trying to bite off too much and getting burned out, I would suggest trying to lighten your load when you go to take the big classes. AP and Micro have been by far my favorite classes now, I also didn't care for general bio, maybe its being closer to my goal or maybe they are more focused on things I like I am not sure. Good luck
Hi runner,
The science class do have a lot of memorization, but you will have that from here on out. That is a given in NS. But there are lots of ways to learn the info. There are so many different programs out there for A&P that for some people, it is really tough, but then for others, it is a breeze (of course that is a figure of speech, it isn't super easy, but it is doable!!!) I totally enjoyed A&P I & II, but then again, I had a wonderful instructor. That makes all the difference in the world! I took both of them online and went in for labs. It definitely helps if you are really interested in it, too. Beleive it or not, some people just aren't that interested in anatomy, and they struggle in class. I think that you will do just fine. You made the right decision to come here to allnurses, and there is a TON of help on here. Just ask!!! Good luck to you also, and keep us posted!
BTW, I would much rather take any class than Statistics. You are way ahead of me on that one!! If you can get through that and Algebra, you can get through A&P!!! :)

I've found understanding the concept first aids in memorizing the facts.
Here's what I did for A&P etc. For each chapter, read the summary First. That gives you an introduction & a bit of a clue as to what to be focusing as you delve into each chapter.

thanks soooo much for your reply !!!! i am very interested in learning about the body ... (anatomy), so i think that will help some. I love this website, and reading every topic because i learn from others concerns !!!!
THANKS AGAIN !!!!
yay, updates !!! i didn't do to hot on my bio final, buttt i did end up getting a B in that class. thankkkkkk goooddddneeessss ! i am sooo relieved. just had to let ya know !
Way to go, runner!!! I am so happy for you! A "B" in any class as tough as the sciences are very good! Never doubt a "B" in getting into NS. I am proof that it can be done! Just remember what I said above, A&P I & II seem much easier to understand. There is a LOT of work, but it isn't covering the whole anatomy in 1 semester like Intro did. Good luck in the rest of your classes, and if you need help, let us know~
BLESSED >> thanks SOO much for your replies...they are soo helpful and make me believe that this journey in school will be doable. I was hesitant at the beginning of school about "b" 's , but after this class, i was actually praying to get atleast a "b". !!!! I'm excited to go onto A&P, and learn about the body more indepth. I am very interested in that stuff compared to BIOMES and how to tell how old a tree is like in BIO >> LOL !!!
thanks again, and good luck to you in the future !
Thank you for the good luck wishes!!! I am glad that you are feeling better. I have always been told that an A isn't what makes an RN. It is what you have inside you that counts! Plus, everyone has said that the A's don't matter once you get done with NS. So, since I didn't have a 4.0 when I got accepted, I am hanging on to that statement. As long as I can keep above the 75.0 mark, I don't care what I make!!! I am just looking at learning as much as I can, passing with at least a 75%, and being the best RN that I can be!!!
Just remember, if it is God's will, then you will make it. Nobody ever said that it is all easy, but IT IS DOABLE!!! I am living proof of that! LOL!!
A&P is so interesting, as well as Micro, and once you get into those classes, you will actually find that you know more than you think about the body. And when you are going through Micro, you will be amazed about how well you know things on the TV shows like House, CSI, etc.! I love to watch the "doctors" talk about various diseases and be able to know what it is they said!! Things like Serratia and Pseudomonas (those were my personal favorites!) And different disorders. It is so cool!!
You will get there, and will do just fine. Good luck!
