Nurses please mark your calendars to make a change. Nurses are planning to rally Washington, D.C. on May 12, 2016 for national safe nurse to patient ratios. I urge all nurses and interested members of the public and anyone who wants to make hospitals safer to make an attempt to attend this rally. We must stand united and have our voices heard. No one is immune from the dangers of short staffing in hospitals. Please spread the word.

I work that day, but will spread the word!

The weekend before the rally, my union is doing a similar rally in my state...we are on the move!

There are many nurses who are total care nurses which means that we already do the "unnecessary tasks", phrase which I, by the way, take exception to. When it comes to patient care, there are no unnecessary tasks and calling them such devalues the work and assistance provided by techs, CNAs, and other members of the health care team.

I work in an acute psych unit. The management/US (and God help us he's a nurse) decided we didn't need a third nurse for 27 pts. No rhyme or reason to the decision. Pt care has suffered and patient safety has really suffered. In nursing usually you make a decision that is based on positive pt outcomes. no such thing here. It was purely financial and not wanting to go to the trouble of getting that third nurse. It's really bad. The law would help. Maybe I could at least do an assessment on my patients. 13 patients is a little out of control.
