Rady Childrens or Sharp RN Residency

Published

Did anyone else apply to these hospitals for their upcoming residency this summer? The wait is making me crazy I want a shot so bad at a job or at least an interview.

For all of those who applied for Sharp NICU...don't hold your breath! I applied to NICU, and heard Grossmont NICU is only hiring 1 new grad. They have a lot of internal applicants, and they get interviewed first. I have a feeling it might be a similar story in other units!

GMSinCA,

If you don't mind divulging, I just wanted to ask where you got your information from? I'm an "internal applicant" at Sharp, and I was told by HR that they were looking at all applicants equally, with no special considerations. When I spoke to HR last Friday, the recruiter said that she still was unsure how many new grads Grossmont was going to hire for NICU. Mary Birch supposedly has 4 or 5 positions. At that time, she was still going through applications.

I really hope that your information is wrong about there only being one position, but it could just as likely be true.

From what HR told me, overall, Sharp received somewhere between 1200 & 1500 applications for their new grad program, but with no estimates on how many applied to specialties.

I hate that the job market is like this. One has to be so competitive to even get noticed and it causes so much stress

Best of luck to all those waiting on pins and needles (myself included ;)).

I got my information from a employee who works in that unit. I am secretly hoping that information is also wrong, as I was very upset when I heard this.

Interesting that HR told you that. Every other hospital has told me that they give internal applicants "priority", but I guess Sharp does it differently.

I understand the stess you talk about...hard not to get frustrated!!

Oh...I think on the Sharp website it said Mary Birch NICU was only open to internal candidates, so Grossmont was my only hope.

Thanks for answering so quickly. I know Rady gives preference to its internal applicants. When I spoke with HR there, I was told that they only had 14 open positions and 26 internal applicants (on top of the 1200 outside applicants) and that they weren't even going to look at outsiders for a month. I knew that was a bust. Unfortunately, there just aren't many options right now.

Sigh....

I'm not sure how true the Rady's rumor is b/c I have a friend who is definitely not an internal applicant and was contacted for a panel interview just a few days ago.

I would hope they give everyone fair footing, but I guess with that many applicants, it can get tough to weed through all of them. But hopefully that gives some hope for all non-internal applicants that there is still a chance!

The one month internal applicant period ended March 16th (It was posted on their website that they would only look at internal applicants for a month). I'm surprised to hear that they didn't hire entirely within during that period. Congrats to your friend for making it to the next round!

oh! wow, ok, sorry, my mistake. Wow, it is definitely surprising that they haven't hired all from within. But that's great for all the new grads applying that aren't internal. :)

No need to apologize. I only know because I've been hyper vigilant. ;)

Got an e-mail today from Sharp Mary Birch indicating that the summer 2010 L&D new grad program had been canceled. Did anyone else receive this? Good luck to everyone...

Yep I got the same email. So much for working at Sharp :(

I know it's just the beginning of April but did anyone hear from sharp? Tia
