THIS IS A SORE SUBJECT WITH ME AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF WE ARE ISOLATD IN THIS PROBLEM. ALSO DO YOU ROUTINELY CHECK CATHETER TIPS ON INFECTED DIAYSIS CATHETERS? HOW MANY ARE ACTUALLY INFECTED? JUST TRYING TO STRIKE UP CONVERSATION!!!!!

Hi everyone! Haven't posted anything in a while, but I visit often and read everything here. I have a question for all the rad. nurses. What is the policy at your hospital re: pressure injection (specifically CT) thru PICC lines? At my former job (different state) ANY pressure injection thru ANY central line (including PICCs) was prohibited. We did occasionally hand-inject contrast thru central lines. The hospital where I work now has no formal policy regarding this. I know there are many risks for the pt when pressure injecting thru a central line, but it seems like I'm the only one who is concerned. Everyone else (techs, MD, etc. ) just wants to finish the scan. This is becoming a real problem! Could any of you give me some resources, such as websites for IV therapy, etc. where I could derive some facts to present my case against this. Also, what is policy/ community standard in other places? I am the only radiology RN in this small hospital and I feel like I'm fighting uphill battles all the time. I would ideally like to take this issue to nursing admin. and establish a formal written policy, but I need help with resource material to back me up. Any help would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks!:D
