Radiology Nurse?

Specialties Radiology

So my school in Buffalo ny has a radiology and a nursing program. These are two seperate majors in this school so if I did both of these majors separately would I be considered a radiology nurse? Or are there certain schools for radiology nurses where both (radiology is combined with nursing) as one major?

Two very different programs, two very different directions for a career.

If you spent time to get both degrees, no you would not be considered a Radiology Nurse.

You would be a Radiologic Technologist and an RN.

You will be enhanced by the knowledge but your position would be, again, either an RT or an RN.

You would either work as a technologist or an RN.

Tough choice! Good luck!

This is the route I am currently going. I will complete my AS in RT in 2019, then pursue my ASN & BSN through a concurrent program at my community college. Since I will have both, will I still be required to get my certification??

Specializes in RETIRED Cath Lab/Cardiology/Radiology.

I believe (and I am only guessing at this point) you would have to get certification as an ARRT mainly if you planned to work as an RT.

You could get it for your own satisfaction, if you wanted, if you chose to work as an RN and not an RT.

Wait, which certification are you speaking of?

CRN or ARRT??

I meant the CRN certification, sorry for not being clear. I already planned on getting my ARRT, so I could work as an RT while in school to become a RN.

Granted, I am not sure which specialty I want to pursue as an RN, but since I would be a RT as well, I figured it would make for a easier transition.
