I am a Filipino nurse working in a Saudi Arabian tertiary hospital. I am having difficulty with racism issues in my workplace. We tried to bring up this topic for discussion in one of the general meetings of our DON and yet this problem has never been addressed. I am inclined to think that my superior doesn't want to rock the boat, so to speak. I am now working in an environment where the culture is very different. Any ideas on how to address this problem? My headnurse is very autocratic and doesn't listen to anybody.

I am also into your similar situation , I was working in a middle easty country as OT nurse and I experienced the situation like in your theatre atmosphere. Just let it be and be true to yourself we all know that we are professionally and theoretically ahead and it should not one of your big worries.
Don't worry jst ignore this and everyone knows the real scenarios. Just be true and concentrate to your work.

What type of behaviors have been going on that leads you to believe that they are being bigots?

Please could I make a gentle reminder to all posters that it is very easy to make generalisations about whole populations within threads such as this, and could I then direct you to the terms of service where it clearly states that allnurses.com is a site that is read by a vast group of nurses and non nurses from all areas of the world, inappropriate generalisations cannot be tolerated so please bear this in mind when posting.
What would be interesting to hear is how those nurses who have experienced difficulties such as this have dealt with it, I wonder if some of the problems that are experienced are to do with cultural differences and if members could offer advice and support for those who are struggling with situations such as this it would be very helpful
Thank you
