Racial discrimination in Australia

Published

I faced racial discrimination and bullying while studying nursing in Melbourne, Australia by my clinical teacher and the university staff. It was one of the most horrible experience I have encountered.

How should I report this ?

Sorry to be pedantic but there is no such thing as "reverse" racism. You are either a racist or not!

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

However, I suggest you research this phenomenon!

My argument against that term is that in order for there to be reverse racism is to imply that one race truly is superior to or more important than another. That is to say that racisim is directed only by the superior race to the percieved inferior race. Therefore the reversal is that the superior race is then dicriminated against, or made to suffer in some way. My belief is that you can only be racist, that there is no reversal posible because in the end not one race on this planet is superior to any other and, for me, to say otherwise is the epitome of arrogance.( Will be getting down off soap box now, carry on..):twocents:

As I wrote, you are entitled to your opinion.

And actually, racism is not about one race being superior to another.

As I suggested, perhaps you need to really research the meaning of the word.

I've said all I'm going to on this topic.

I have already provided whatever evidence (that comes from my memories) but it seems that the university is protecting that person.

When a rapist rapes a victim, the victim only has her memories of the incident. It is all the evidence that she can give short of videotaping the event.

I have nothing against australians but I do find american and canadian white much more friendlier and less racist. That is from my experience.

I am out of Australia now as I am sick of the hypocrisy practised by the university.

i hate to tell you this, but racism exists everywhere. it really depends on where you go in america and you may find worse that what you have. i am a black woman engaged to a white man, and even though his family loves and accepts me as their own now, it wasn't always that way. when my fiancee's father first found out he was with me he called me a (expletive) and a porch monkey, but over the years we have grown close. the reason why he did this is because he was raised to think that way and had never had actual exposure to a black person where he lives. i kept an open mind and continued to show him that all black people are not like the ones you see in the media and now we are a very close happy family.

my advise would be to calm down, take a deep breath and realize that you may be over reacting a little. from what you have described, that is a normal teacher who has a stick up her butt. many of them act like that. understand too that some nurses and doctor's may come across the same way sometimes once you become a nurse, but you cant pull the race card on all of them and if they are discrimination, suck it up and either find another school/work place or stop complaining. you have control over what you accept.

Again, it's regrettable you had an experience which has caused you hurt. I would encourage you not to judge ALL universities nor ALL Australians, on this one unfortunate encounter.

There are other universities here which might provide you a more pleasant experience than the one you were attending.

I wish you every success and happier experiences in the future.

i agree. if a person is having such trouble at the school and cant get it resolved, there is a easy solution; go to another school. i am sure that the same way you got to australia, if you feel all australian's are racists, you can find a way to get out of that country. if there is a will, there is a way...

ohh and by the way, the definition as stated in the Marriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is

racism-a belief that some races are by nature superior to others.

so i dont know what definition you are referring to, but i do agree that the race card does not appear to be applicable in this case, at least not without seeing it, because the description just seems like a stern teacher to me...

Are you saying that if a rapist rape you, nothing should be done to the rapist (no charges, no trial in court etc) and you should just move to another place where rapist are not condoned ?

I've never said ALL australians are racist but only my clinical teacher and a few others.

If a teacher is stern to all her students from all races, then racism is not involve. But if she is stern to only students of a particular race, what does that tell you ?

Let me give you an analogy !

Cinderalla's stepmother was stern towards hardworking cinderella but was extremely lenient on her other two lazy daughters.

first of all, you can not compare rape to someone giving you an attitude. i was raped by my mother's ex husband from the age of 7 to the age of 12 and by no means, rape is to be compared with you getting your feelings hurt. :angryfire

grow up! you are being way to sensitive. she did not rape you, she just upset you. and like i said, if you cant work with her, you are very capable of removing yourself from the situation, which a child or anyone else being raped does not readily have the capability of doing. when my fiancee's father made crude remarks i could easily avoid the situation by not talking to him, but i could not keep my stepfather from holding me down and doing what he did and i am appauled that you would compare the two. based upon your responses, i can kind of see why she has given you such attitude. you are taking something minor to the absolute extreme...
