Just a minor and trivial rant here. My interim unit manager must have gone to management seminars that teach them to use canned phrases to encourage us lowly and gullible bedside nurses. I wish she could just address us as adults for a change, and could drop the patronizing sounding catch phrases.
I sent her a pertinent article, and she responded that she planned to read it, then concluded her email with "Thanks for caring!". All the emails that management sends us is full of this canned enthusiasism, complete with exclamation marks, that essentially talks down to us as if we are pre-schoolers. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't start handing out happy face stickers.
"Thanks for caring!" "Thanks for being part of a great team!" "You guys are a caring team!"

It's the same as if I'm shopping at the store. When each checker says "Thank you for shopping at K-mart" it's obviously a mandated script. When everytime I go to Safeway, I get asked "Are you finding everything okay" several times whenever I come close to a stocker or produce guy, I conclude that it's a corporate policy, and not genuine.
But, when I have a genuine human interaction with another human being, who responds to me as an individual, I know it.
I always respond to them (Are you finding everything OK?) like they care, also.
On second thought - poor choice of words, considering context of the thread... :trout:
I meant to say - I respond to them like they are really interested in my feedback. Perhaps that is just my passive-aggressive way of expressing that everyone is entitled to my opinion...

I finally got too aggravated and started shopping elsewhere. Not all stores have this policy, I found out.
I think this must be part of a "Management speak" course.Are they all at it ,all over the World?!
I haven't found management in my hospital like that. Don't get me wrong, they still don't really care about the floor nurses problems, but they don't use flippant 'Thanks for caring' remarks either.

not exactly the same thing, but kinda.
there is 1 tech, who i have to have nightly talks with.
she has been there for yrs, and has a folder 'this' thick.
the first time i talked w/her, she later said to me, "you beautiful. you have beautiful face. ooooooh, so beautiful."
i just looked at her and modestly said thank you.
next time i talked to her:
"you beautiful. you have dtr who beautiful too?"
same thing, next time and next time.
last noc i was on, i told her she was 'this' close to being fired.
nothin'.
nada.
not a peep.
but thanks for the compliments, anyway.
