Jules A, MSN

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Will you get to do all of them? For the internship I interviewed for you can give your preference but you only get one speciality.

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

I would go with whatever specialty interests you. It's probably true that you will see a lot in med/surg (not to mention develop great skills in prioritizing), but if you are not interested in it at all or have a greater interest in another specialty, then skip med/surg.

Specializes in PEDS ~ PP ~ NNB & LII Nursery.

I actually work on a L/D; PP floor and we see a lot of surg OB pts that have had hysters or C-Sections. If you are planning to go into L/D or PP then you might think about doing that for your internship and you will most likely get the post op pts as well.

It's like killing two birds with one stone. If your love is going to lie elsewhere though, you might consider what type of nursing you plan to do when you are done with school.
