"My Nursing Lab" and supplemental software...

I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of "My Nursing Lab". You need an access code to use it. I need it for my Fundamentals, Med-Surg , and Pharmacology book. My question is if anyone else had to have it and if they really used it and also any supplemental software.

I bought my Fundamentals book on ebay and the seller said there was an unused access code and the DVD came with it. When I got the book, there was no access code and no DVD. I asked the seller about it and she said that she can't find the DVD and asked if I would like to return the book. If I don't really need the "My Nursing Lab" and the DVD, it wouldn't really bother me, but if I need them I guess I should send it back.

Thanks in advance!:D

Check with your school. We were "required" to complete assignments that the school could confirm on-line that we had completed. Some students, who purchased used books like you, had to purchase supplemental access and by the time they had done this they might as well have purchased the book new. This is why I always advise students to check with their school first. If you think you might not get a quick response from the school I would return this book while the offer is on the table -you can always pick up another used book if you find the school doesn't require the on-line access.

I don't have "My Nursing Lab", but I do have "My Math Lab". I can totally ditto what the pp said about might as well just buy it new. It was about a $10 difference, between buying new w/ access code or buying used w/ seperate access code. Check online though, you may be able to buy the code online, and I know for My Math Lab it's about $15 less that way.

As far as needing it, if it's anything like the Math, it's likely to be required. All of our homework and quizzes are done through it online, with only our tests on paper handed in, and some instructors do it all online. At first I wasn't too keen on this idea, however, knowing what my grade is at anytime is nice. The only time I have to wait is for our tests, but even those get posted through it pretty quickly.

Good luck!

We did not use it for quizzes or homework, but the videos of the skills and the study helps that went along with each chapter helped for studying.

You should talk to the nursing department at your school to see if they will require it. My nursing program required us to do a lot of work using the software and online resources that came with our texts. They would verify whether or not we completed the assignments. We used My Nursing Lab and Jarvis Physical Assessment a lot. We had to have the access codes for these. I bought a used book for my first semester in Fundamentals and had to turn around and buy the software seperately. I should have just bought a new book to begin with. It would have been cheaper. I definitely won't make that mistake again. Anyway, be sure to check it out.

Even if your department doesn't require you to have it, a lot of the cds and online resources that come with the nursing books are really useful when studying for tests. Prior to entering the nursing program, I RARELY, if ever, used any software that came with my books. Since I've been in the nursing program, I have used all of the CDs/DVDs that have come with our texts. I have found most of them really helpful. I would encourage you to get them. Good luck with your first semester. :wink2:

We used it. The skills videos were pretty handy.

They set us up with it, but they never used it in teaching--they never gave us assignments to do on it or anything.

The students, on the other hand, used it a lot since the videos and vocabulary lists were great study aids, and the quizzes were great practice for the tests (especially since quite a few test questions came straight from those quizzes).

Thank you everyone for your input. From what everyone says, even if I don't need it, it would just be better to buy it brand new. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this and reply.:D

Our program required that we buy the access code, and I have not used it much. We are not required to use it. It was a waste of 200$. The NCLEX questions are the exact same ones you find in the back of our chapters and on the books web site. The remediation was-reading the book online. There were other things also but I did not find it helpful. I thought the study guide for the book was more helpful, because it gave different questions and I could get used to the questions/rationals. I would have reather spent that 200$ on a PDA for clinicals, but I did not have a choice because it was a required purchase.

I use my nursing lab for peds because the professor required it for chapters that we aren't covering in class. So far, its a waste of time. you take pre tests and they tell you what you need to work on but the questions are very dry. It is hard to grasp what they are asking. My classmates feel its a waste too

It only cost us something like $45. If it had been $200, I wouldn't have bought it. I liked it in first semester because of the skills videos. Haven't used it since.

Are the videos in my nursing lab any better/different than the ones you can see for free on youtube? Thanks.
