It depends! In what state are planning to work?

In order to get an interim permit from the states that honor that, you must be already have a visa that will permit you to work in the US, otherwise to be able to start the process you are required to have passed either the CGFNS exam or the NCLEX exam to qualify for the green card. And the states that will issue an interim permit require the CGFNS exam to be completed by the nurse first before it will be issued.
And it is only good for six months, and then it is gone. You also must meet all requirements for licensure and just have not written the NCLEX exam to get the IP. Usually does not work for foreign nurses.

you need to check the California nursing board website and all information is there regarding interim permit
What type of visa do you have? CA also requires that a foreign nurse pass the CGFNS exam as well as have passed the TOEFL exam to be able to get the Interim Permit in the first place.
If you are not on a green card already, then this is completely useless for you to even consider. Any other visa will not permit you to work. And most facilities will not even consider you without having passed the NCLEX-RN exam before hiring you. And to get the IP, you must still go thru the process of licensure with the BRN. The IP whein it is issued implies that you have met all requirements for licensure except for writing the actual NCLEX exam, and it is only valid for 180 days and then it expires. So not beneficial to you at all, if you have not already completed the other exams.
