Would like to get some input on this position I was just offered. The company is called National Care Management and they are contracted by Humana. They want me to visit clients in home once a week. I can have up to 35 clients. They pay $180 per client/month. She said it breaks down to $45/hr. No mileage no training pay. Is this a good idea? Is it worth it for the amount of driving around and extra time it must take? Anyone do this for a living I would love to hear from you! Thanks

When I did this in the past we had a hard time getting members assigned. It was first come first served and I never had more than 5.

I just replied in your other thread that I don't understand how a company can expect not to pay mileage. I'm also wondering how they can expect you to not get paid for training.

Will all your clients be close to your home? How far will you have to travel? How is traffic? Will you be sitting in your car in traffic? I would be skeptical of this but am interested in others' thoughts.

They claim it is taken care of in the flat rate of $45/HR. It's not a typical home care job so I'm just kind of skeptical as well! I can choose my clients so I can pick ( if there are any ) clients close to me

Also we get CEUs for the training

I Would ask them to speak to a couple nurses doing this job. I think it's very possible that travel time, mileage, etc, plus the visit will make this a low- paying job.

No training pay is a huge red flag. You can get your CEU's for free.

Ask to see a breakdown as to how it adds up to $45/hr.

Sounds like $45 for a visit, and they won't be paying anything for driving.

We would pay $180 a month per member. The agency received $360. I routinely had to drive an hour each way to get members. And the paperwork was time consuming.

I submitted a "reply" but it has not posted...so trying again :sneaky:

There are many agencies out doing this for Humana. What you want to look for is what they have to offer you, ie: Simple IRA's, CEU's, Bonus', Strong CM Support and education, Scheduling freedom. Most of the Agencies are PER DIEM, so getting any benefits is huge!

I think if you check with this particular Agency, you will find that they offer all of this and more. They also only ask you to go only 25 miles from your home and then fill in members in the between so the driving makes sense. There are a lot of tricks to getting the "paperwork" done quickly and painlessly...that is another thing this Agency works with their CM's to find the best time efficient methods. This particular Agency only advertises in areas where they see a big need. They request a minimum of 10 members and a max of 35.

This type of work isn't for everyone. It is definitely something you need to be a self starter, able to work independently and have strong time management skills. If that is your strong points, this would be an excellent opportunity.

Also to note, Humana does not hire LPN's, only RN's whereas this Agency can utilize LPN's that have 3 years of Care Management experience as well as RN's that have 1 year Care Management experience.

I guess what I am saying is, not all Agencies are alike - check out their web pages, their benefits, their management that you deal with and make the best choice that works for you!

Good Luck.
