Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

Published

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

You can wait, but it will only delay your apporval to sit for the NCLEX. If you have the time, then there is not an issue with it. You also need to submit the applivation for the Visa Screen Certificate.

I plan to take TOEFL for Illinois BON's approval for nclex since it is the only english exam required. For VisaScreen, I'll be taking IELTS(I'm afraid of the TSE), please tell me if this is the right thing to do just to get away with the TSE.

thanks Suzanne Im sending it right now because as most of us I am in a hurry. One more question, while fillin up the NY BON application in item 20 Immigrant Status what should I choice? I am outside US not even have a non immigrant (tourist visa) should I mark any of them or leave it blank??

Unfortunately New York Education Department only accpets Money orders isnt it? well it would be easier if it could be paid by creditcard in the internet

Hi Suzanne,

My SIL was educated Poland as an RN, and is now a permanent resident of the US. She never practiced as an RN in Poland , but did graduate and was considered an RN there. She wants to get her RN license here in the US, we live in CT, which she tells me requires the CGFNS exam and the NCLEX. I have read some posts about NY licensure, it seems as though they don't require the CGFNS exam , but rather the Verification. Wouldn't it be easier for her to get licensed in NY and then apply for licensure here in CT? She has already sent $$ to CGFNS to apply for test, she had to get all her transcripts and papers translated and sent to CGFNS herself. I'm a US trained RN, I don't know much about what is required from foreign trained nurses. Can you help us out with a plan? I'd hate for her to have to study and go through the CGFNS exam if she can just take the NCLEX in NY and get it over with. She is currently working as a CNA, and she really needs to move on.

Thanks,

Paula

Connecticut will not let her endorse without taking the CGFNS exam, so depending on where she lives in CT, she may be better off working in NY and commuting.

The NCLEX exam is required in every state and has reciprocity for all states, but each state is permitted to set their own requirements. CT may change one of these days, but currently requires the CGFNS exam for foreign grads.

You are applying for the green card, and just include a copy of your passport. They just want verification that you are legal somewhere.

You may have issues just taking the TOEFL exam on its own, as it is now included as an all in one exam. This is something that you will need to check directly with ETS on. They are the ones that adminsiter the TOEFL exam.

Thanks, Suzanne. I guess she'll have to take the CGFNS exam, then NCLEX and get her license here in CT. She really isn't interested in commuting. I'll tell her to check out this board so she can ask questions of those who have taken the CGFNS.

Thanks again!

Thanks for creating such a great informative forum!

I have a question in regards to sponsorship fee...

I heard the lawyer and application fee etc often costs several thousands ($6,000+) of dollars. Does anyone know if hospitals help pay for a partial cost or offer reimbursement? I'm getting a little nervous as I certainly couldn't afford this much right now...

Thank you in advance.

It should be in the neighborhood of $4000. Nut sure what else that they are throwing in there. And yes, many hospitals will pay all or part of that.

If you are a US citizen, then you do not need the English exams, they are primarily needed for the Visa Screen Certificate that you do not need.

For Texas, you will need to get a CES, done by CGFNS, but you do not need to take the CGFNS exam, only the NCLEX exam.
